TPMS advice

    Hello my Tacoma friends. I am needing some advice on replacing my old TPMS on my 2007 Batteries have been gone on my existing ones for a while now. I will have to replace my tires soon and want to replace the tpms at the same time. however looking on rock auto I am a little unsure what i need. There are steel and alloy options. screw on and clamp on options. etc..
    Also I see there is also separate hardware available for purchase. I have after market 20" rims and want to be sure I get the correct application and hardware for the install when the tires are installed.
    Not even sure if the spare has a tpms in it or not on the 2007.

    My ‘06 has a TPMS in the spare. I also went with OEM sensors when I replaced mine. The originals lasted 13 years, so I thought $30CAD each was worth it.

    Yup. I went with rock auto and got Denso’s get pre-programmed ones. This way the garage can just scan them and they are active
    The sensor should be part of the valve stem
    Do not get the ones for STEEL RIMS they will not fit ate ones for alloy rims

    The spare on my 07 does have a TPMS. When I bought my last set of tires I replaced all of them. I ordered (Denso's from Rock Auto) four for the alloy wheels and one for the spare that has a steel wheel. Each of the TPMS has a unique ID number. As a precaution, if you order from online, write each number down just in case the tire shop has difficulty scanning for the new TPMS.

    I put these in my 07 a little over a year ago when I bought new tires. Discount Tire installed them and programed them free. Surprisingly mine were still working after 14 years but I knew it was just a matter of time and it was unlikely they would outlast another set of tires. It is a lot cheaper to get it done at the same time you are mounting new tires

    You'll also need one for the spare. They are a little cheaper if you can just buy a 4 pack but 07's need 5 sensors.

    Just be aware. No reputable tire store will touch your spare if it is over 10 years old. Mine was 14 years old with only about 600 miles on it. I picked up a good used tire that was only 2-3 years old to replace my old spare when I had the sensors installed in the spare.

    I've used sensors from Amazon in 3 vehicles so far and have had zero issues with any of them.
