SiriusXM Tuner/adapter - built into head unit?

So I have received my 2022 TRD Sport (not premium) a couple of weeks ago and I currently have the 3 month siriusxm trial. I currently have a subscription tied to a current module (similar to https://www.amazon.com/SiriusXM-SXV300v1-Connect-Satellite-Streaming/dp/B00NJTO4CY/).

My question is if the Tacoma head unit has the same module or if the tuner is built into the head unit. I ask because I currently have a lifetime subscription, and it to have a transferred will cost me $75, but also because if I transfer it to a "vehicle" as opposed to a detachable unit it will be tied to that vehicle permanently and never be able to transferred again. Just wishful hoping that there may be some slight chance that it might have the same module and I could just swap it out... but not getting my hopes up.

How did you get a lifetime subscription? What did that run you?

I believe the tuner is built into the OEM deck. When I replaced mine with an aftermarket, I lost XM until I replaced the tuner and changed the radio ID.

In your XM account settings there is a "replace this radio with another" option that should work just fine for transferring.

Maybe they changed something but they have this showing today:

"Can I transfer my Lifetime subscription to a new radio?

Yes! Active lifetime subscriptions (excluding Lifetime subscriptions included with the purchase of certain luxury vehicles) are now transferrable an unlimited number of times to a new radio on your account. A $35 fee per transfer applies."

QUOTE="TRD75, post: 27267019, member: 364506"]You should probably use the XM app on your phone and use CarPlay or Android Auto on the headunit.

    The downsides:
    - I believe some content may not be available in the app
    - the content will be streamed over data through your phone, not the truck’s satellite antenna (not an issue if you have good cell coverage and unlimited data phone plan)[/QUOTE]

Android auto is an option but
    A) don't have an unlimited data plan
    B) despite being in new Jersey I'm in the middle of the pine barrens, and there are some spotty cell coverage areas.

I bought the subscription before the Sirius and XM merge, back in 2008, cost me $400 (certainly paid for itself by now). I've transferred once. At the time of the subscription it was 4 transfers max at 75a piece, but transferring to a dedicated vehicle was permanent. It would be awesome if they have updated their policy but I'm not getting my hopes up. If I'm not able to swap the receiver unit I will move the account to the truck, but if I had the option that would have been my preferred way.

Ya I would look into the Alvarez Vs Sirius XM lawsuit. 2020 I believe. That's what made SiriusXM change.

Wild they finally changed that transfer limit silliness. I remember doing the $75 transfer around 2016 and I think it was the last time I could do it. Moved the subscription from a crappy outdated Sirius standalone to one of the tuners so now I can just move the tuner around from aftermarket radio to aftermarket radio.
