Unless you're tuned for it, you won't gain anything.

So? Half the mods here drive Fords. Plenty of T4Rs and Jeeps and subies in here too

Meh. Bottom of the barrel gas imo

    I'm tuned for it...

I was kidding about "not a Tundra forum"

All gasoline comes out of the same load head into the fuel tanker. It's all the same. Only difference is the minimal amount of additives(techron, v-power, blah ,blah, blah)

just passed 4K on my AG DC OR and I'm loving it! Super happy I went with the MT, I've been driving manual for the past 22 years and wouldn't have it any other way.

I'm told the latest and greatest being tested by the VF boys is fantastic. Still not out for public consumption though... @Shellshock

Got 6 cars in my life, 4 of them were manual transmission (Hyundai Excel, Toyota Corolla, Mazda 5 and my new Tacoma). The only reason I got my 2 RAV4’s in automatic is because an as5h0le decided to not sell them around here (I know because I rented a few RAV4 in manual transmission and diesel in Europe). Needless to say I see a dark future ahead of us.

Rented a 2022 TRD Off Road 6AT over the weekend because National had like 15 of them on the lot and I wanted to see what all the negative fuss was about….

Let’s start with the 6AT transmission - everything I’ve read over the years on here was pretty much spot on. Drivetrain felt pretty lethargic and it shifted at all the wrong times. I don’t drive aggressively in my truck because it’s decently slow with the 4.30 gears and larger heavy tires, but my god, this was bad. It really felt like the truck was struggling to move it’s own weight. There was a ton of squashy, dead space in the gas pedal that made smooth control difficult. The ECT button made a huge difference to the point where it was livable but I can’t get over how much worse it was than my truck. When I got back to Minneapolis and drove home in mine it felt like I was in much better vehicle - and let's be honest, they're 97% the same truck. The 6MT in these 3rd gens really makes the truck for me.

Adaptive cruise was a little worse than what’s in the Fords I’ve driven for work. The brakes are too slammy and the gas is too punchy. It worked though and was definitely a benefit to have both regular and adaptive cruise than just regular cruise but I wish it was more relaxed and could brake the truck all the way down to 0mph. Similar to the accelerator, the brake feel was much different than my truck too - felt like the top half of the pedal travel was kinda dead and the bottom half had a ton of bite. Very hard to get used to. The 6AT tried to downshift and engine brake the truck so maybe that played into it. Either way, not easy to control smoothly.

Ride quality on the OR surprised me in a good way - I was only on pavement and it felt about the smae as my truck. Granted, I have bigger heavier tires on mine compared to the unremarkable Kevlar Goodyears on the rental. I did appreciate how much quieter these tires were than my ST MAXXs. I’ve got about 20k on them now and they howl pretty decent.

I hadn’t been in a non-skewpd Tacoma yet and let me tell you, the scoop is awesome and makes the truck feel bigger and beefier than it is. I missed mine on this trip.

The rental didn’t have rear cross-traffic alert. That feature is truly awesome and I missed it.

I’d rent one again because I know it’s a comfy road trip truck. No doubt in my mind the guys on here that have switched to the 6MT made the right call.

Riding in some non-Skewped Tacos had the opposite effect for me. I ended up swapping because of it. Hahaha!

I have had a couple 4Runner rentals. They seem alright, but not as good as my Taco overall. I definitely prefer them to anything else that I have personally rented. That party trick rear window is so freaking nice though.

haha the skewp is definitely love it or hate it

I haven't driven a 4runner myself but I wouldn't blink if I had to pick that vs the 6AT Tacoma.

    ^^ Interesting feedback.
I drove @mysubiewasalemon 's tuned AT and it screamed, almost pooped my pants when punching it. I can definitely see how a tune plays a big role for AT. I'm curious how much of a role it plays for MT. If sticking to no-tune, that's where I think MT or ECT always on makes the most sense. Or even PC I guess, though that seems like a poor solution to me.

I am odd in that I strongly prefer the improved visibility without the scoop, I think there's a lot of preference there. And it's not much extra visibility. Probably speaks to my anxiety about hitting small dogs or people or crunching property. Every time I'm in a truck with a scoop I dislike it.

OR suspension vs Fox, I just got my Fox shocks and it's so much better than stock OffRoad that I'm very surprised you thought the OffRoad was good compared to your Pro w fox (never driven a pro myself). I think the stock OffRoad is the worst and my wife hated it too, hit the brakes and the nose drops 3", just ridiculous. Maybe you're focused on higher speed suspension? It's not so bad on the highway at 70, I guess I'd give it that, it just sucks at slow speeds and in traffic and turning and doing anything other than going straight on a freshly paved road :)

I would definitely like BSM and cross traffic alert as I don't have it in my 2016. Love it in the 2018 Odyssey. Wish it were as easy as dropping in those LED bed lights in a 2020+.

The Cooper AT3 XLT's on my Tundra are quite loud too. I rather love my super lame SR5 wheels with firestone 245/75R16's for street use. It's just pleasant.
