It was our first time there. Without a guide, we likely missed a lot of the better trails. It just felt like a bunch of work pedalling without much of a reward.

We were expecting more in terms of features; Dagmar delivered that without much looking around.

@Saturnine so learned there are more bike trails up here than i have driven in the truck, just wondering but i'm looking at 1out of a few options since the regret of not bringing the Marlin 5 with me up to Whitehorse has settled in

    1) packing up the marlin into a box and having it shipped to me (no idea what this would cost)

    2) buying a new bike up here and riding around and bring it home

    3) rent-a-bike

What i'm wondering, how are fatbikes on downhills/ trails?

    otherwise, Options are:
    https://www.icyclesports.com/2021-liv-rove-2-dd.html
    and
    https://www.icyclesports.com/2021-kona-lanai.html

From what i can tell is that the Kona frame is a nearly identical to the Marlin 5 but has the same forks, similar wheel size

Shipping is gonna cost 1/4 of bike's value. Fat bikes are fun and can be adapted to run regular wheels

Depending on how often you’re actually riding, the cost of a rental, and what the cost of purchasing whatever bike you’re looking at is, this may be your best bet. Plus, you may be able to try a variety of different bikes. This is the route I took when I was out west for a bit.
You could also look into purchasing a former rental (usually previous MY or a couple MY older) for discount if the bike shop has any to sell - most shops take good care of their rentals. Another economical option.

Could also just run a Walmart/CT special as well. Ain’t no shame.

Figured that would be the case, thats why im more inclined to buy a new one up here. Crappy tire has a Raleigh Rouge 4 and some Supercycle BigRig fatbikes, figured to ask about em as a lot of people have fatbikes up here.

Pricing out a rental vs buying a new one outright is like a week worth of biking. $600 for 7 days...might as well add double that and not need to worry and have a bomber bike.

    >buy a former rental
Now listen here... thats not a bad idea, id assume it would be kept up to spec with dozens of riders abusing it. Definately something to consider.

    > wallmart

Crappy Tire has a Raleigh Rouge 4.0 fatbike for $770. Its why i asked how they are :burp:
Since i have the Marlin, i'm somewhat considering that.

Ill checkout the one of 3 bike shops in town and see what they have for sale in terms of Rentals

    Oof.
Pricing may have definitely went up since I was last out there/had to rent a ride.

Raleigh have two frame suppliers; APro and Kinesis both being from Taiwan, which is typically considered better than their Chinese counterparts. Give the bike a spin and if you like it, no reason not to get it, unless you’re really planning to thrash the hell out of it. The biggest difference, by far, that you’ll find between your Trek and the department store stuff is the quality of components used; typically that’ll mean that fine tuning it will be more difficult. But if you can live with it, and it works for you, all that’ll matter is that you’re out there and enjoying yourself.

Option 4, get the bike shop bike or x rental. If you want to sell it after you will be ahead or worst case even with the CT bike that has no value after.

It's kind of a unique position because you're not in a place where choice is plentiful. Only choice may be shitty but at least a shitty fatbike is different enough than what you have. Can always upgrade but I don't know what the best route to go is

I'm gone for too long that rental isn't worth it.
But not long enough that a full spec is worth it either.

    :anonymous:

I'll be checking out the shop tomorrow
