I need to look at that wire, maybe, but if it is the same dimming circuit as goes to illuminate switches; then i am almost certain it is dimmed by Pulse Width Modulation (PWM), and the new gauges dimming function needs a +12v trigger, to activate the internal dimmer.

The Toyota illumination is all LEDs, and i am almost certain that LEDs are not dimmed by varying voltage. they are either on or off, depending on if the voltage is higher than the threshold or lower, the resistor is only to prevent burning up the LED from Over Voltage. The way to dim LEDs is to flash it on and off, quicker than the eye can detect, but appears dimmer. the brightness varries as a function of the time intervals of "on" vs "off"; until the point where we can see the flashes. I believe this is what the illumination wires use on our trucks, but would need to connect to an oscilloscope to verify. Anyhow, the illumination wires that go to dash switches, will not work to feed these gauges, unless i dissect the gauges and intervene. I have not figured that out, as the schematic for the gauge is not available.

Do you know if the stereo illumination is 12v, live only with headlights live (not with DRL)?

I'm assuming 3rd gen all the same the book shows 11-14v on that wire which leads to me believe its switched from the battery not PWM but probably worth investigating? I've never seen PWM going to the deck but who knows on this new shit.

OK, So I am disappointed that no one commented on the gauge install? I expected a bit of a pat on the back, pretty proud of how it came out, but I guess this goes to show that I am in the company of greatness, so you guys set a high bar (though I have not seen Meso on this thread, so thought I had a chance for coo-does {Meso is a very tough act to follow})?

Maybe it is my choice of pictures:IMG_3429.jpg IMG_3459.jpg IMG_3437.jpg

Thanks guys! 3 days of modding gauges, gauge wiring and the lens, but I think it was worth it. I still need to weld the bung on the down-pipe to get the AFR operating.

My AEM oil pressure gauge scared the shit outa me today. Was cruising down the freeway an saw it flashing 100-150psi, thought I smelled oil too but it was a dump truck in front of me..

Everything checked out and it was normal again after a power cycle. Still gonna do oil/filter early just for investigative purposes, and my own sanity.

It's fun when you forget how fun something is when you haven't drove it in a while. I was like damn more pick up than my dd.

My afr gauge lost its shit for a minute too while I was cruising on the freeway. Truck would have ran like crap if there was an issue. Maybe a ground wire. It was fine the rest of the day.

Aem gauges are garbage. Both my wide band and boost gauges were DOA had to warranty both if them. Now my wide band is dead again after about a year of use.

My original wideband sensor that came with the gauge only lasted like 800mi, the replacement I got has been solid for quite a while. Makes me think they got a bad batch or something. Happens often in my industry so I can't really blame AEM, the gauges have worked perfectly otherwise. Changed the oil , everything looked ok. Dropped a cool $85 shipped for new pressure sender too. :drunk:

I have a love hate relationship with my gauges. It's more or less there to let me know maybe I should plug in the laptop and see what is up.
