    Hello,

I have a 2012 2.7L with 280K on it, and the other day it got a CEL and the codes P2440 & P2444. I have looked around on the forum, but most of the trucks that seem to report P2440 are 4.0L engines. My dealership claims that these codes are not covered by their service campaign on my truck. I may try to go in person to press the issue, but we shall see. I tested the valve using the troubleshooting guide in this tread, though I am not yet able to run down the A7 connector. Otherwise the valve seems to be fine.

I have not seen anyone mention P2444 on this forum, which seems to say that the pump is stuck on. That seems weird to me, and perhaps the pressure from that is making the car think that the valve is stuck open? As I mentioned, blowing in the tube told me that the valve was closed, and then I put voltage across it and then it opened. I have not yet determined if the pump is indeed running too long after startup, but I have noticed that the CEL shows up after 10-15sec or so.

I recently cleaned both my throttle body and MAF sensor, and the truck has had a high idle at startup. I am under the impression that it just will take a little bit for it to relearn the correct level, but I will disconnect my negative terminal before turning in tonight and see if that helps at all. Another poster mentioned that they had reoccurring problems even after replacing parts and what did it was cleaning MAF sensor and throttle body. Funny that this crops up for me about 1.5months AFTER cleaning them.

The service campaign was for the 4.0 engine.

AFAIK, there has never been one for the 2.7.

The P2444 code is likely a secondary code due to the P2440 (Switching Valve Stuck Open).
By far the most common cause is the switching valve or pressure sensor, the pump is nothing more than a vacuum cleaner that blows air, about the only things that can happen to the pump are the foam filter coming apart and screwing things up or the pump grenading or stopping altogether.

Toyota's flow chart for the secondary air system is kinda convoluted, much easier to just pull the hose off the valve with the engine idling after the secondary pump has shut off, if there's air coming out of the valve it's leaking or stuck open.

I would prefer to stick close to OEM, thank you though.

So I disconnected the negative terminal about 2 weeks ago, wondering if that would reset some things. No light until two days ago, and now it is giving me the p2433 code, which looks like it is the sensor in the valve body. It is intermittent, and when I did check the voltage/resistance it was within acceptable levels. I am wondering if this sensor is what caused my initial problem. Does anyone have a good source for this? I am hesitant to buy the whole valve body if it is just a problem with the sensor.

On the 2.7l the pressure sensor is divorced from the valve. Follow the vacuum line from the valve up and you will see the sensor mounted.
I would look over and test your wiring from the sensor to the ECM first. Because they are separated they usually don't get damaged when the valve leaks exhaust like the ones where the sensor is built into the valve.
We have the factory pressure sensors straight from Japan at a considerable saving than going to the dealer. Don't trust anything other than a factory Toyota or Denso sensor from an authorized dealer. When I was trying to find a source for then about 50% off all the cheap ones were bad right out of the box. They just aren't the same.

For giggles call your local Toyota dealer and ask them the price for the secondary air pressure sensor....
