Can you add a switch to the backup so you can have it on/off while driving?

Is there a mod or wiring out there that can allow me to turn on my back up camera while driving?
I thought there was a thread someplace on here.

    yes.

    https://www.anytimebackupcamera.com/

You can also add a few options and get an anytime front facing camera too. Very handy for 4x4 trails with steep hills.

Or, ya know, MaGuyver your own ;)

    Oh look, another mod....
Yes, you can add the anytime cameras, BUT....you cannot do that if you have the 360 surround view option on your truck. If you do, then you can't.

doable and is indispensable when your back window is blocked and you aren't sure if you have another car kissing your bumper before changing lanes.

Quite a few aftermarket headunits have this functionality baked in.

Yes, AnytimeBackupCamera.com sells just the override harness. You have to call them and ask, but I think it's in the neighborhood of $40. You'll also need the dash switch (Air on Board has nice ones that match the LED color of the other switches). If you want the switch to be illuminated, get a jumper harness from Kyle Morgan (member here). All together, it should cost you about $85 (plus a little work) to be able to turn on the backup camera at will.

Thank you, I had not been looking hard enough on their website. I finally have a use for that random Flux Capacitor switch I have in my dash.

You can throw your truck into reverse while driving and it'll display the backup camera and it won't screw up the transmission if you're above a certain speed. @ROBMOTIVE was brave enough to try this :)

I just bought the front camera kit yesterday. My truck came with an auto high-beam switch that I've never used before so I'm going to take it out and stuff it behind the dash and replace the empty hole with the dual-switch for the front/rear camera. I don't feel like spending 6 hours ripping my dash out again to install it below the infotainment system

I've read that somewhere before. Did he mention what that magic speed was? I'll be going the same route as you and doing the harness instead.
