I have a Teconsha Prodigy controller. It is plug n play if you have tow package. I rent RV trailers every now and then and this controller is easy to adjust and has worked great for me. I haven't used any others, so I cant say which is the best. There are several tow threads you can look up.

I am running the Redarc liberty. It is hidden under the dash and leaves just a small knob on the dash in one of the leftover blank holes in the dash. With all of the extras needed to mount and plug and play wiring harness I was all in for just about $200. Pretty nice not having a box on the dash.

Run ETC and S4 and you'll be fine. The Tacoma should handle that fine.

Brake controller for sure. I run the Prodigy as well.

3500# (GVWR) Vorsheer XOC pulled by a 2021 Sport Auto DCSB. Redarc Tow Pro Elite, Hellwig 981 Helpers. I'm heavy with the Leitner and the Decked drawers fully packed. You will need a trailer brake controller at a minimum and I highly recommend sumo springs, helpers, bags, or stiffer leafs. My taco feels like my grandma's Buick when fully loaded and towing and I have a set of Deaver Expeditions in my future.

From Dubois, WY to Fort Worth, TX my worst was 8 MPG and my best was 12 MPG with stock tune, stock gears, and stock meats (Toyo Open Country roadies). A tune, some gears, and a trans cooler is in my future just because I tow almost full time. My $.02: you can absolutely pull the trailer and I encourage you to do so (with bags or helpers) just so you can feel what a stock Taco feels like towing so you have a basis of comparison. I have towed my XOC through the Wyoming high desert off-road for days on end without seeing anything but the pronghorns wandering so don't let anyone tell you that you have to have lockers, a winch, 35s, and gears to go have fun. Just be smart about where you take your rig.

This was fully fueled and fully loaded - keep in mind about 350# of trailer weight is tongue weight on axle 2...

I have a manual 21 Tacoma and had a camper just around 4500 loaded. Not too fun up hills, but otherwise manageable. Ended up getting rid of the camper for other reasons, but I think it handled it ok given the size and power of the truck

I'm getting the Liberty controller and need the following
    Mounting kit
    Liberty to Tacoma harness
    Dash dial to Liberty harness
    Dash dial blank for dash

I'm going to get the large switch cover 007 so I can mount it on beside the 400w switch

Our TT is 3250 dry. We pretty much stay local for our camping trips. Pulls fine. I have the REDARC Controller.

Hooked up the Redarc Libery today and not much happens until you push the button in and it turns blue then fades away. We do not have a trailer hooked up nor do we have our trailer yet to hook up to. Does this seem correct? Might go to the neighbour's and hook up to his to see if the led turns blue when hooked up.

Yes this is correct. The unit will turn solid blue when hooked up to the trailer. And red when the brakes are being used when you step of the brake. If there are any other issues, the led light blinks in different ways telling you what is wrong. There is a card with the LED troubleshooting guide.

It says it doesn't do much when no trailer plugged in, just wanted to make sure it was functioning.

So even after buying the unit, you still have to buy all these parts?

Yes, for ease of installation. You really don't need the mount, but it would make it easier and you would only need 1 of the switch panels depending on where you want to put the Redarc.

Most places sell the Redarc Kit with the above-mentioned pcs minus the Mount.

Tundra / Tacoma Brake Controller Kit – REDARC (redarcelectronics.com)

There are two types, the Elite or the Liberty. I have the Liberty and it works great.
