    Hello!

I'm looking at making an app for the Tacoma. The app will have diagnostic information, like fuel level, oil temp, tire pressure etc. Maybe remote start?

What features would you guys want? Would you even use this app? I would have to install a piece of hardware onto the Tacoma to get this information though..

    Good idea? or no?

    Thanks!

    Oh look, another mod....

Give it the ability to increase our fucking MPG's so they average over 20MPG all the time. I speak for everyone who has ever owned a Tacoma when I make this request.

the Toyota app already has remote start/lock/unlock/fuel level/last parked location/driving behavior/and the ability to make service appts.

Going by the Tacoma MPG I'm only getting 12mpg and around 15mpg on the interstate. I need to calculate it myself since I'm running 33's

Do you have any experience pulling diagnostic info, temps, and other values from cars, then into an app? It can be done but its not gonna be easy at all.

Also, there are already OBD2 dongles that wireless load all this info into an app... Sounds like you would just be reinventing the wheel.

woah didn’t even know this existed. I’m an embedded software engineer so I can play around with OBD2 to get the data. Also made an app too lol… hmmmm any other ideas that you would want in an app for your Tacoma???

    A91205F3-7F70-4363-B515-085DCDCBE99E.jpg Hey man,

I have a 2007 Tacoma, currently most of us use an app call Torque (android users) in conjunction with a Bluetooth dongle plugged into an OBD2 port. And the apple users use an app called fusion.

Currently, I have the following gauges reading on a tablet (See attached picture) But there are some gauges I would like to see that I cannot. For instance, I’m missing Tire pressure for all 5 tires, and fuel pressure. Still working on programming the app to pull that info into the app.

Anyways, this is not easy and I have been work diligently on trying to figure this out. Another thing I ran into, I tried to program the app so I could see oil pressure, only to find out that the sensor is a switch and not a transducer. So it doesn’t actually read a pressure, it just shuts the motor off if the pressure is to high or to low. Be glad to hear your thoughts on making an app though.

Hmm, like a few of the boys already said, it would be reinventing the wheel.

But with that said, I could think of a few features I would like for a Tacoma app to have. I don't know how doable it is though.

For example, it would be cool to be able to access your cameras through an app and see around your car. Let's say you've parked in a bad neighborhood or just want to use it as an add on surveillance system for your house when parking the car in the driveway or an apartment complex garage.

Another one would be if the app could be used to allow the user to turn the car on, and adjust the interior temperature before leaving the house/office to get into the truck.

It would also be cool if you could use the app to turn lights on/off if you're out camping at night and want to leave your tent to take a piss lets say and want your truck to provide some lighting to the area in case of bears/snakes etc. Obviously you can just use a flashlight but its nowhere as cool as using your trucks lights and I imagine extra light would be appreciated in the pitch dark wilderness.

Maybe an app feature that alerts you when your doors are opened or if you accidentally left a window down.
