Have any of the wiring geniuses ever looked into the traction control button and working out a way to turn it off fully without having to hold it for 3 seconds?

It is beyond annoying when offroading to have to stop, then have to push and hold the button every damn time.

Is this even possible to override this so that it is a simple on, LSD, full off switch?

I believe for the 2nd gens there's a work around that involves splicing a switch inline with a ABS sensor.

May be possible for gen 3's.

I don't think it is possible. This switch is likely just signaling the ECU.

I don't mind the 3sec hold, but the full stop sucks.

I hope this is not the case... I wonder if any of the wiring geniuses have looked into it.... Perhaps if not we could motivate them to look at if it is possible.

How often are you toggling that button to have made it that big of an annoyance?

Dunno about OP but I toggle it several times a week for doing spur the moment dumb things and it's certainly frustrating.

Most commonly if I want to drift a corner or cut through a sand pit and the like.

Having to full stop hold etc ruins the excitement of the moment almost as bad as forgetting about it and having the alarm go off power get cut and completely neutering any fun maneuvers.

Worst yet the time it takes to diddle the nannies allows rational thoughts to overrule fun ones.

I always wanted to wire in an ABS fault like a speed sensor, flick it, BAM xmas tree lights, no traction control.

But its self remedying so when its turned on again, it clears instantly.

Gee whiz, no. Twice a month I have my valet push my truck out of the garage so I can wipe it down with a chamois, then push it back in.

Then I go golfing, or at least I would, but I don't like to walk the fairway. I stay on the cart path where it's safe.

    So go ahead. Educate me.

That's uh, a different rock lobster. :spy: He and I are actually neighbors, I see that guy driving around town once in a while.

But I'll happily tell you where I'm coming from. For a good number of years my procedure to go "off-road" was as follows:

    • Throw the lever into 4H
    • Stop car, pull parking brake
    • Fish around in the console for a pair of pliers.
    • Get out, walk a lap around the car while rotating the front lock hubs 180°
    • Get back in, decide between 4H or 4L
    • Go wheel
Naturally I learned which obstacles could be taken in 2 wheel drive and which should probably be taken with all wheels pulling. Nothing sucks like getting out in the middle of a mud hole to engage the hubs.

...but no. Complaining about pushing a button is one of the most George Jetson problems I've ever heard of. Especially considering that if you really need traction disengaged, you probably should be stopping to assess the obstacle and/or airing down anyway. Unless you're hooning. That's the only legit excuse for wanting that button on the fly. :cookiemonster:
