If I had a welder/knew how to weld I certainly would. I’ll see if a coworker can assist me with that endeavor though. He was telling me that he recently bought one and doesn’t live too far from me so hopefully I can try that!

Where are you exactly? NOVA is kinda broad. I might know someone with a welder depending on where you are. It's literally a 5 minute task if the person is set up for it.

I'm guessing your removal tool thingy failed?

I might be repeating others but did you hit it any kind of penetrating fluid? PB Blaster comes to mind.

    https://www.amazon.com/Blaster-PB-P...006&keywords=pb+blaster&qid=1655749371&sr=8-4

But there are others that work too. The trick is multiple applications. Sometimes more than two. Guys knowingly spray this onto rusted parts they want to disassemble days in advance and multiple times so it has time to work. Don't worry about contamination, because you are not going to get enough of that to worry about it.

Also, and this is really old school, but did you try heating up the housing around the plug? You can try this in conjunction with the penetrating fluid. This is counterintuitive but maybe heat the plug up so that it expands, and only after it's cooled down, heat up the housing then try to remove it. Maybe the expansion and contraction of the two will force it to break free.

It's a dumb ass design, that's for sure. And I am sure I would rather have to use vise grips on a boogered up bolt type plug rather than an allen type plug and be in the position you're in. At least with vise grips or hell, even a pipe wrench would be better than wishing it out.

It's also the kind of bolt I would only use a 6 point socket on for the remainder of it's life.

I’m over in Prince William County. The extractor tool didn’t fail, it just didn’t do the job successfully. I was able to hammer it in there once I stripped the drain bolt a little more as I had to make the hole a little bigger for it to fit (twss)

Once I had hammered the extractor into the drain plug and started turning, it would eventually pop out. I could see it working properly if it wouldn’t pop out. I have indeed used PB blaster multiple times with no positive results. Although I haven’t tried heat, that’s the only thing I haven’t done.

I went ahead and purchased the “upgraded” Lexus fill and drain plugs that allow you to attach a regular wrench to them. As soon as I get that drain plug out the new plugs are going in, no questions asked!

Hmmmm, the only peeps I know close to there that might be able to help out is Rob @LocoLocal or David @fatfurious2 . You're too far from Randall @EatSleepTacos but I believe he is the one with this drain plug experience I am referring to. He's actually welded plugs shut so they don't open up on trails.

See, and I would do something stupid like drilling it out. Of course only after almost setting it on fire with a torch. :bananadead: But we all know I am a dumb ass.

I can help you. Is any part of the extractor left in there?

we would need a 10mm hex to weld in, and then we can remove. Ive done it a couple times.

Dont weld the plug closed. It needs to drain eventually. He could put mapp or propane heat on there, just protect the cv axle boot. It might help. Fyi, mapp gas burns much hotter than propane
