Had a cool three day weekend up in Colorado. Drove up from Albuquerque to spend a few days off-roading and camping. Drove ~150 miles of dirt over two days.

Most of it was easy. A lot of it was scenic. Some of it was sloppy muddy mess.

Hayden Pass in the Sangre de Cristos, mild and pretty.

A little loop south of Salida Sand creek and Badger creek. Bland. Do no recommend.

Aspen Ridge loop from Salida to Buena Vista. Camped just above Salida. Cool view and I could just make out the live music from whatever festival was playing.Went up dead horse gulch. Challenging enough to be fun. Plus I accidentally started down one of the million bike trails and my back tire slid off the trail and I had to use my winch for the first time.
    Dumbass. :anonymous:

Tin Cup pass was super scenic, rocky, and sloppy muddy in places. Followed a stock 4Runner up. Buy a damn compressor! Watching their heads bounce around, I felt sorry for them. Water crossing at mirror lake was maybe 18” deep.

Napoleon Pass. That was a doozy. Saw no other people. The trail is rated hard as is. It was so sloppy muddy, big slippery rocks, muddy messy dug out spots, big tree roots. I had to keep using the rear diff locker. Even the top, a slightly steep two track… I almost slid off. Sketchy solo. Multiple 15-20” deep creek crossings. But pretty fun. Plus I sliced a side wall and waited out a brief rain storm to swap tires.

Then essentially followed the CO backcountry discovery route from Pitkin to Lake City. All of it was easy. But quite scenic. Elks, deer, antelopes, marmots. It was fun. This fall I may try to take a few days and run the full COBDR

My 4wd engagement started acting up, getting slower and slower over the past couple trips. Found the root cause. It looks like the tube was disconnected from the truck end, maybe past maintenance?, and over years water accumulated inside the motor housing. I am not a splashy, rip through rivers and mud puddles kind of driver so I'm not positive how so much water got inside. It was at least half full guessing from how much started coming out when I got it removed and then how much more was inside when I got the housing apart.

Bought a cheap replacement for now, which engages near instantly and will sell a few retirement funds to eventually get an OEM unit shortly.

Surprising how long it worked, and that it even worked leading up to this point, but this is typical of Toyota quality from my past dozens of land cruisers and pickups and seeing how parts fail.

Would rather have a floor shift.

Did some regular maintenance this weekend. Cleaned out the oil catch can and this was in the bottom. Any thoughts on what that is and why that’s circulating through my engine?

Thank you, sir. Did I create a bigger problem by installing the catch can or is this normal?

Catch can is doing it’s thing and not allowing that to enter. Better there than somewhere else.

Normal. Most toyotas for some reason are another are always susceptable to crank case condensation. Ive seen brand new engines have milky stuff on inside of oil fill cap.

I got these 7000 lm amber lights and they are absolutely incredible. They are from Amazon but had almost perfect ratings and I couldn’t be happier with how they turned out

condensation if you take short trips.

Coolant if there’s something like a bad headgasket. Which can be checked with a block tester

That right there is the reason I installed a catch can. After I took my throttle body off to clean it and saw how much oil was in the intake I knew I wanted to get one. I only drive 4 miles one way for work so normal weeks my truck only just gets to operating temps. Also every time I would change my oil the cap and fill tube were covered in that crap. Id rather not have that going back into the intake.

Couple of things done to my truck lately lol

    - Roof lights
    - opened up my wheel wells
    - Installed a snorkel (only reason I did this is because I removed my fender liners so my intake was exposed and my truck was one good water hit from hydrolocking. I guess it looks cool lol)

Just some small cosmetic things. Painted the dash trim. Still have some more to paint but better than the ugly silver/brown trim. Nothing fancy but I like it.
