You're looking for a solution to a problem that doesn't exist. Use the factory gas cap holder; you already paid for it.

Most of this site is dedicated to spending money to fix problems that aren't really problems, except to the person spending the money. Then the fix for the problem that wasn't really a problem causes more problems which requires spending more money to fix a problem that didn't exist in the first place.

@DylanS4x4 Yes, I saw a post someone shared and I moved forward with gas cap holder purchase.

The locking gas cap was an adventure...I tried 3 versions from 3 different auto parts stores: AutoZone, NAPA and Advanced Auto--all set off error codes.

I ordered the one on O'Reilly's Auto parts online from Northern Virginia location since we don't have one here in Delaware--No Errors!!!

Buying products for my Sport since May/2021 is an adventure. I'm glad I'm at a point in my life where I can afford to make those purchases.

Not sure why people only consider material cost only. You need a 3D printer ($$), design a part in a CAD software (Time and $$), Slice the STL model into a 3D print file and 3-4 hours later you get a scrappy PLA plastic part that will break in 15min. It may be $0.10 worth of material, but it take time and effort to turn that plastic into a part.

I have both the meso gen 1 and the Amazon cheapo. I actually prefer the amazon one. If you want to DM me and pay for shipping Ill send you the gen 1 gasshole for free. Just let me know.

I really didn’t know this was a thing until the turd gen forum on TW. I’ve always let it hang all my life. Now that I know I’ve been losing a lot of sleep over it. Nightmares of my gas cap dangling just flapping in the wind because I forgot to put it back on.
True, with the stock market down I’m having to live out of my Tacoma down by the river eating potted meat and sardines on saltine crackers, but that’s small stuff I see now. Gonna check the seats for loose change and maybe beg on the street corner til I scrape up enough money for a gas cap holder. Before it’s too late and my life is totally ruined.

But then again, maybe not.

pop the little neo magnet off an old sonicare e-series brush head, glue one to the cap and you could just stick it on the back side of the gas door.

I must admit that I do like this cap holder way better than the Gasshole from Meso. This one is much like those that used to come on Toyotas. But, unlike others here, I have no problems with sticking the cap into my Gasshole. It isn't as though it has to go WAY in or anything, just enough to make it snug enough to hold the cap for a couple of minutes while you fill up. The cool thing about having a Gasshole, is the look on peoples' faces when you ask them "hey wanna see my gasshole?"

That one I will give you. Having half a gasshole just doesn't have the same panache.
