Hey all, sorry if there's already a thread that addresses this. Poked around for awhile, didn't see much of a consensus on it.

Replacing passenger CV axle, got one from Napa because cheap and in store. It's the NAPA Premium CV, Part # NCV 944052. I've got it all torn apart, the old one is aprox. 29.25", and the new one is aprox. 27" (measured end to end). Old one appears to be compressed, I can stretch it about a half inch. New one can be stretched about an inch, and also compressed probably about that much. It may stretch more, didn't want to try too hard though.

From what I've seen, it looks like that play allows for not having an exact fit, but 2ish inches seems like a big difference, so looking for advice on if it'll work or not.

I don't recall how much lift is on the truck, maybe 2 inches, not sure if that's enough to cause the issue or not.

I appreciate any feedback. Also, let me know if more info is needed. Thanks y'all

I actually went to Napa and attempted to lookup the correct part.
To say the least, Who even wrote item description and figment needs to find a new job.

I suppose I could measure my driver side axle that I have still in the box.
It’s a Napa HD I bought a couple years ago that I never used.
If no one else knows, I will measure it later. If it matched your length, then when know they sold you one for the left side.

Well shit, I have the same. Trail spares I got a long time ago. Guess I'm going to see if I can return or get credit.

I'd measure if it's the same part # op has.

The CVs have some play to extend and compress. Looking at the first photo, the inner boot is torn so it leads me to believe the axle may be extended a bit so you’ll have a false measurement. I’d compress the old axle and remeasure before returning the new one.

You can also see where the boot clip groove is on the axle and how the inner boot is bulging. Both things that tell me your old axle is hyper-extended.

It’s not the same. Mine is for the left front.
If mine measure 27” than we might conclude that OP has LEFT front axle.

That pic is with it fully compressed as far as I can tell. I hear a clunk when I force it together. I can stretch it to around 30.5" or 31"

@AllTacosFloat Ahh, so that's what the other part is on the site. Welp, back to Napa I guess, thanks for the info!

*edit. That box I got has the part # 94-4052, so it looks like the correct part

Measured my emergency “Cardone”. Same about 26-27 inches. Doesn't bother me too much. A lot of the stretch resistant is in the boots. OP’s original has a bad boot which may allow the extra stretch. :notsure:

I can tell you that when I bought mine at Napa 2 years ago.
They specifically had 2 different part numbers, 1 for each side.

They asked the side it was for, their site doesn't list which is for which though. The one I got says it's for both sides.
@rnish the old one is completely compressed though and is still 29", the new one, where it sits naturally so, is about 27", and at that length can be both compressed and stretched.

Also, the little warning in the book in the pic, is that just a GM thing that doesn't apply here?

8DDE2C41-CB9A-49C7-B380-E4F42394773B.jpg Well mine is like 26.75”
It stretches out a good bit, but the boot sucks it back in.

So for anyone interested, I cut the boot off the old one, and one of the bearings on the tricycle gear was siezed up so the gear was outside of the housing and couldn't be pushed back into place. Once I beat the bearing loose, it slid into the housing, and was the 25.4", same as the new one from napa, so all is well. Got the new one installed, so far so good. Thanks for the feedback y'all!

I was at the dealer on 6/24/22 trying to get a pair of the Toyota remanufactured replacement axels PN 43430-04070-84. Dealer said both side axels are the same L&R and the parts are on a national backorder and unavailable.
