Like most of you in the southwest, we’re being “blessed” with high temperatures. But, having a/c in my house and my vehicles, I’m surviving…although something strange is happening with my truck that has never happened before. Last week I got in my truck, which is black by the way, in the middle of the day, and as I started driving the factory radio started skipping though the various bands, like it was in scan mod. I try to select a station, but it just keeps jumping from XM to FM, where it’ll play for a few seconds, then to AM, where it’ll play for a few seconds, then back to XM, where it’ll play a few seconds, and so in and so in. I’ve found if I turn it off and drive for a bit to let the a/c cool the cab down, when I turn it back on, it works fine. It’s done that daily for the last 5 or 6 days. Anyone else had anything like this happen? I’ve owned the truck since it was new and this is a first.

I can’t say I had anything like that happen to me, but the first thing I would try is with xm. And that would be to refresh the signal or what ever they call it. It almost sounds to me that your losing xm and it defaults to am/fm.

I just can’t instruct you on how to do that cause I don’t remember. I would suggest get on the xm website and they have some info. I think. And come back and let us know if that works. You have spark my curiosity.

It being a stock radio that's going on 10 yrs old has alot to do with it. 2nd gen factory radio is not known for longevity. Personally, I would go aftermarket at this point, preferably from Crutchfield.

The stock radio in my 2010 turns itself on when outdoor temperature is high. The dealer replaced it twice under warranty for problems caused by Texas heat.

Thanks for the input. I figure that if I drive the truck another 100,000 miles or so that I’ll probably need to replace the radio, but not ready to do it yet. I was really just wondering if anyone else had a similar experience. Today it was about 10 degrees cooler here and everything worked the way it should.

Cut & broke off some stuff.
My 05 did that skipping stations thing. Dealer couldn't find anything wrong since it was really random and never did it for them. I eventually just swapped out to another OEM radio I found for free/cheap which fixed the issue.

Your stock radio may have bad solder joints. And when the heat expands the circuit boards just enough your loosing that connection. Its just a thought I’ve seen it happen with other electronics . Honestly the stock radio sucks.you will be much happier with and aftermarket radio. You can a decent setup for under $300

Between 2011-2013 factory radios had a failure rate of over 70%.
Got to the point that if there was a complaint I would just order one and not even
    Look at it.
My own truck went through 3 before I went aftermarket.
