Wanted to add an update to this. I just got done swapping my rear axle and obviously had to bleed a lot of air out of the rear brake lines. I was using my bleeder around 6 psi and the brakes still didn't feel right after several tries. Did a two man bleed and got a good bit more air out of each rear wheel. So looking back 10-15 seems to be the sweet spot.

So true but I'm a sucker for "there's a tool for that".

Will this pressurized system also bleed the master cylinder?

It will bleed part of the master cylinder but if you are installing a new one full of air (or really any MC you suspect has any air) I'd do a bench bleed and actuate the cylinder.

This thread is old but I wanted to share the adapter I rigged up out of some 1-1/2" abs pipe fittings and a flexible pipe sleeve, it holds just over 10 psi with no leaks and didn't cost a lot...I had the brass fittings already.I may try it at 15 psi...IMG_20220627_193350.jpg

Very clever! I would think you would want a tube that extends into the reservoir (concentric to/within the rubber sleeve) to avoid the possibility of spilling fluid when you disconnect? At this rate, is there any advantage of the motive system over a $10 garden sprayer from Home Depot (that’s what I’ve used in the past)?

I haven't actually used this rig yet so yeah, I may need the tube you describe.Did you use the Motive universal adapter with the HD sprayer? Did you miss not having the pressure gauge?

I had a motive a long time ago when I had a vw….threaded cap was nice. I don’t recall if the pressure gauge was all that essential, but alas I parted with the motive when I got rid of the vw. Living in the nyc area, I had no need for a car, and no place to store unneeded tools.

After I moved to the sticks and got my Honda, I rigged up the garden sprayer because I couldn’t stomach paying for the motive adapter for the Honda MC (it looked janky as hell). My home brewed garden sprayer solution, with no gauge, worked fine for fluid flushes on the Honda, but I’ve only done two man flushes on the Tacoma so far.

Seeing your ingenious setup, I may have to try something similar with the garden sprayer one of these days….can always add a cheap gauge to the tank. One advantage of the sprayer is that the handle for the wand has an on/off valve, which could conceivably come in handy at some phase of the operation.

I did give some thought to using a HD garden sprayer but after 40+ years of making do/adapting tools to get things done as a poor teenager, I remember thinking "Boy, It sure is nice to have the money to buy Real Ready Made Tools, instead of Making Do" :)
Of course I draw the line at buying anodized aluminum pressure caps/fittings at $120 a pop, so I build my own....

It worked a charm! Pumped it up to 15 psi after putting a quart in, bled the 2 rears and the proportioning valve, then pumped it up and did the 2 front calipers. It took 3/4 of a quart probably because I thought "It can't be this simple" and bled more that required....up and down twice, when most of your major joints are titanium/ceramic that's something you pay attention to. Here's the splice that I put in, passenger side front.IMG_20220628_121015.jpg IMG_20220628_121004.jpg

fantastic, thanks for the report. Care to provide more detail on how you cobbled the reservoir adapter together? Do you think it would also fit the clutch reservoir?

It was just made from off the shelf 1-1/2" abs fittings about 2" of pipe glued to a threaded adapter that accepts a clean out cap/plug, that I threaded to accept a 1/4" threaded hose adapter after drilling a hole innit (size? beats me!) I used a off the shelf 1-1/2" rubber pipe sleeve that I trimmed a bit so the hose clamp wouldn't slip off the reservoir's lip. I added brass M type air tool fittings just because it's quicker to install/remove and 'cause I had them....I don't think it will fit the clutch reservoir, no room to work in and the diameter of the inlet is smaller, I think. This is a one trick pony. Toyota calls these an "SST" (special service tool), another one to add to my collection. ;)

Here's a photo of the parts, I think I can cut the sleeve in half, avoids having too much fluid trapped up there.IMG_20220628_131044.jpg
