you probably did your install already but I can answer your questions for future installers wondering the same thing.

I kept my skid plate on during install. And those side radiator panels are still on my taco. I cut a large hole on one of them to allow the winch wires into my engine bay.

Hey Hodaguy, first thank you for this awesome, easy to follow install thread for this bumper. Between your instructions and the video SSO provides, I was able to get this awesome bumper installed on my 2018 Tacoma. I have one question though...how do you get those little brackets on after the bumper is in place??? I had one on the bumper as we put it on the truck but even that one I haven't been able to get attached to the actual truck. And I can't get my hands into the area where the bracket goes to try to get the other one installed. Any suggestions would be awesome and greatly appreciated!!!

Alright guys clue me in on how you were able to get the front mounting bolts for the winch installed.

The tapered plate that is below the winch mounting plate will not allow you to get the bolts through the holes with the winch sitting up top. Bolts are a little too long.

Seems you have to lift up on the winch and somehow start the bolts??

Do I have to go to the hardware store and get shorter bolts?

Wouldn’t this have been much better if they left enough room to use the standard shorter warn winch bolts that came with the winch?

**Update** I did get it finally by myself by starting the back ones and then tilting up the winch to get the fronts in

    All the things!
Adding a couple holes would be easy enough to do... toughest part would be accurately locating them. Just measure twice and drill once.

I haven't yet....haven't been able to troubleshoot it, but we were on a 2 week road trip recently so it got put on the back burner.

I too had a difficult time putting on the bolts to secure my winch. Just take your time and be patient. There’s just enough room to make it work. You only do it once. Once it’s installed you will feel victorious.

**UPDATE** This did not work. Still not enough room

As I am prepping for the install with a warn winch, I have been looking at a lot of different installs.

I’m glad I found this today where an SSO installer shows you how to cut the support bracket so you don’t have to remove the warn control pack.
I was planning on locating mine like Classy Tacos did in his videos but now I think I will keep the control pack on top center of winch and just do this recommend

    Go to the 8:25 mark

I was able to get the brackets in.

took the brackets through the bumper skin shield area below fog light.

There are two threaded holes at the base of the bumper.
Mine had a large hole and a small hole for some reason. OP picture shows 2 small holes with 2 black bolts.

So I used 1 black bolt and 1 silver bolt from the package.

you have to make sure you get the right and left side brackets correct. The L faces up toward the engine compartment. loosely thread the bolts in and then fit the opposite end to the bumper skin hole. You take the orange clips out of the hole.
The skin bolt did not come with a nut shown in pic below but the bracket was threaded

This is the drivers side bracket from the instructions.

Two questions for those who have already plowed the fields.

    1. Those using the HF Badlands APEX 12,000 winch @Boyettexan and @Keeperduck016 were you able to leave the top control box on the winch. If so what mods did you do to make work?

    2. Will I be able to install a 20” light bar after the winch is installed? Mine is installed :anonymous:and I’m waiting on the light bar. The cut out dimensions are 21” 13/16 long x 2”3/16 wide. Light dimensions are 22” L x 1.8” W.

    TIA
