I just ordered the RCI this morning on their “Black Friday” sale. Was leaning towards the Martin OffRoad but the 1/4” sides, finished rear, and the front fairing sealed the deal on the RCI for me. I really like the way the fairing follows the contour of the roof.

Same here ordered before it came off sale, just waiting for shipment...maybe I'll be able to install it before it gets ass cold here.

Dang it RCI...have your rock rails and full skids. This is mighty tempting to order. Overkill for the handful of times I want to carry my kayak while towing.

probably, but here are the reasons I didn't go with another option...I wouldn't trust the OEM roof rack with two kayaks on it. I've seen too many pictures of the Yakima/Thule roof racks come undone with something like a kayak catching the wind. And a bed rack is equally expensive and would be a pain to store when its not on the truck.

Carrying anything long and potentially wind catching (kayak, SUP, etc.) on a roof rack really requires front and rear tie downs. Relying on only the center supports is just asking for a problem, especially if you are on a highway.

Hi (Not sure if I should have started a new thread) I'm planning on buying a taco to replace my 06 4.0l 6 cylinder access cab Tundra, the main use is for family trips (6-7000 miles a year camping 2000 taking it to work store so it doesnt sit 2-3 weeks,, wife and I carrying two big kayaks 14ft 80-90lbs on ladder racks (I was thinking of the yakima bed rack because it's 7' wide) camping gear and two bikes in the hitch) Usually , 225-400 miles each way I really like the price difference of the 2.7 Trips are relatively flat but highway speeds 75mph, so for people hauling kayaks on roof racks I would love the advice of mpg (I realize individual results vary) and is this a huge strain on the 2.7 and if you happen to notice what rpm (I get 17mpg with the tundra regardless if their are boats or if I use in town and on the hwy with boats in runs about 2200rpm)

Front Runner just came out with a slim sport. It’s like Prinsu style but with their own bars. I got the Prinsu and might go for the original Front Runner slimline cab rack to match the slimline II topper rack I have on my RLD. Frontrunner keeps giving me a hard time about installing the slimline II to match it flush with the Tacoma cab rack they have even though I keep saying that I’ve seen many Tacomas that have theirs Frontrunner cab rack and topper rack flush. They keep insisting I need the footing installed. If they’d install it for me without the footing and make it flush I would’ve pulled the trigger already on the cab rack.

I ultimately ended up with an RCI roof rack to match my sliders..

I was originally back and forth between Wescott and RCI, I decided to go with Wescott for the rack (YouTube videos sold me). Unfortunately I had a very interesting experience with thier customer service person. I ordered direct online then immediately canceled (within 3 minutes) because a distributor was offering (shipping was the difference) the rack for over $100 less. Wescott required that I pay a $30 fee to cancel. I get it (merchant fees), paid the fee no problem, but the correspondence could have been a bit more professional on thier end.

Wescott seems to have a great product, at least the other product I previously bought was well done. They appear to have it so dialed in, selling product hand over fist that they did not NEED my money. That was how the correspondence made me feel and that did not sit right, especially being an existing customer. They are right though, they dont need my money......

Maybe the girl was having a bad day, maybe I should have bought their sliders as well and then I would have climbed the customer worth scale.

Regardless, I am very happy I pulled the trigger on the RCI rack, it is a great product in my opinion and a better value. I am seeing more and more people choosing RCI now too. The sliders I bought are very high quality, I should have gone with RCI rack from the beginning.

One more thing, RCI was appreciative that I did business with them, what a concept!

I Just received my RCI roof rack! I went with theirs over other brands. I liked how it was not rounded on the side brackets towards the back of the cab. It follows the roof line, I really like the design at the very back of the RCI roof rack it looks more complete than others, It fits so close to the shark fin. I looked at the RCI rack in photo collages next to other brands the simple logo is Nice and overall finish looked great comparing side by side photos and staring at all the roof racks around town! I can’t wait to get it installed! WTA

Why do people buy non-Sherpa racks when Sherpa clearly looks the best and offers the highest dynamic and static load ratings with 1/4” metal instead of 3/16” like everyone else?
