why are my speakers popping/crackling?

I am getting a terrible popping/crackling sound coming from my front components when I turn the volume up. It does not do this when the volume is low. It sounds horrible. Im running my front components through an amp and the rears off of the HU. Possibly an issue with grounding? I have the amp grounded to a seat bolt. Im running RCAs alongside power but Id rather not start this debate. I inly have the gain turned up only 25%. Does anybody have any ideas???

hmm... what model amp and speakers? Could be ground, double check it reclean it, needs nice clean metal I've seen rusty grounds in the past cause issues with amps..... Sounds more like possible issues with the speakers themselves, has this happened from day one, or just started after a amount of time?

 

since day 1 which was like 3 days ago...Alpine MRP-F300 amp and polk db6501 components. I will investigate all speaker leads and grounds first tomorrow...

 

Anyone have any other ideas or suggestions? I have checked all leads and ground at seat bolt. Voltage there is 12.10v. I tried different RCAs too..no difference. Im pulling my hair outover this. Speakers sound like crap...only happens when the volume is turned up.

 

Sure you're not just overdriving them? Set your crossover to 40hz (HP)on the amp and see if it still does it.

 

Yes im an idiot and had the tweeter and woofer connections switched. Its all good now. What is ideal for the HP on the amp?
