Any trailer light kits that don't require a wire run to the battery?

How else would the lights get power?

Same way the tail lights get power. I don't understand why you can't just tap into the wiring at the tail light. With that said, electrical is my Achilles heel.

a standard 4 or 5 plug flat doesn’t require any wiring to the battery. If you want a charge circuit for a 7 pin you’ll need to run that wire to battery. You could always install a 7 pin and leave the trickle charger function empty at the connector.

So, for a basic trailer with a flat connector, I could use one of the Curt kits that taps into the tail lights, and not have to run the power wire?

For the Curt 4 flat kit for my truck, I did have to run a power wire to the battery, sadly. I don’t think you can get away with just tapping off the existing wiring on a modern truck.

im not 100% sure but as long as the wiring can handle the extra load it shouldn’t be a problem. Usually manufactures will have the install instructions.

As a knuckle dragger are we assuming you don’t have towing option installed? If thats the case then you should save your time and aspirin headaches and just run the wire forward. Ground anywhere along the path. Modern rigs can sense additional taps on circuits.

You can, but that is a weak system. Yeah, I spent about an hour on my back running the wire, but I do things as perfectly as possible. The kit I used included an integrated fuse in the wire and has a power distribution box..getting its power directly from the battery. There is no electrical drain. The rest of the harness plugs into the rear lights. No cutting...no splicing. That is the correct way of doing it.
