Good LED lights for 2022 Taco

Ordered my 2022 Taco TRD Sport Blue Crush in March. Came in and got it yesterday sooner then expected.

Any how forgot about and didn't have time to pullout my LED system I had in it. I was really happy with the system and have used them for years with past Tacos and other vehicles. I checked and they only seem to make specific kits none of which will work for me.

Anyone have recommendations for LED kit that fits current Tacos? High/Low Beams and Fogs?

Yep, the factory LED headlights with any of Diode Dynamics SS3 fog lights (sport, pro, max). I recommend getting a conversion harness from @daveeasa for the led headlights.

I'm running pro LED's and selective yellow SS3 Max's. @daveeasa I finally got around to swapping the chrome grille out. Big difference! My anytime camera mount from "The Taco Garage" should be here in a week or so along with the anytime camera kit.

 

Another option for headlights is Morimoto Xb with white or amber DRLs. No conversion harness necessary. 100% plug and play

 

I guess I should have said also not looking to break the bank or something that requires additional wiring and such. I just don't have the time or money for that at the moment.

Just looking for LED replacements that fit and better than stock for now for $150-$200 or less for the 3 sets.

 

I think the Phillips led bulbs are the recommended alternative then.

Wrong Gen.

Morimoto 2stroke 3.0 LEDs are the best replacement LEDs on the market. They will not match the performance of spending $18 on some Philips H9s for the low beams, since the headlights are designed for an omnidirectional halogen bulb and all LEDs actually perform worse.

The Morimotos will be a downgrade in the high beams. They will not match halogen upgrades in the low beams. And they should not be run in the fogs as they will create a poor pattern and increased glare while failing to perform to the level of an SAE LED assembly. The best performing option by far for the headlights is the OEM LED swap. Replacement LEDs are actually a downgrade from stock, despite what vendors may try to sell you on.

If you’re sticking with stock headlight housings, keep the incandescent bulbs. They work fine for what they are. I have never found an led bulb that works better in housings. The only bulbs in housings I’ll run that are LED are brake/turn/parking lamp etc because they are the only ones that don’t have a focused beam.

On the flip side, I have a full lasfit low/high/fog/brake/reverse bulb kit I can sell you if you want it. I removed them to go back to stock. They actually did work pretty well as an led in a housing but I prefer stock. $100 plus shipping.

I really enjoy the rigid 360 fogs as well for boosting the low beam but I have a feeling if you’re not wanting to break the bank, then those ain’t gonna fly.

 

I find my LEDS SL1s from DD work better than the factory halogen and better than the GE Mega 130. To me they out perform the stock lights by far, better throw and a more focused beam. These new LEDs are getting better everyday.

 

Lasfit makes terrible LED products that are advertised in a very misleading way. Even your own photos show glare in broad daylight, which is really difficult to do unless the product is absurdly bad. Definitely a brand to avoid.

What you are seeing is increased foreground light, leading you to believe it is better (since humans judge light based on foreground light) but you have lost distance light, making it much worse even though it appears initially brighter. This is no different than most all other LEDs on the market where people swear the see better with a short range flood light rather than a focused distance light. Science clearly shows the distance light as the winner and you’d be foolish to argue otherwise. But take it from one of the best experts in automotive lighting:

Tldr: don't put led/hid bulbs in halogen housings.

 

That pic is stock halogens and rigid SAE 360 fogs. The glare is from poor camera focus trying to capture the color at the cost of picture clarity and glare during the day. So no, nothing in that pic “absurdly bad” as you yourself endorse stock halogens and Rigid fogs.

the lasfits came from the PO, I removed them on day 2 for halogens. They are not in the pic at all. I just happen to have them saved to sell rather than throw in the garbage because someone will want them eventually. And for the record, the lasfits did not really have any glare and they had a very sharp cutoff on the wall. I think it has to do with being a projector housing. In reflectors I’ve found LEDs to be much harsher than in projectors.

All I was doing in my post was offering up a cheap led solution for the guy requesting it. I am picky and ran them for a day or so because they came in the truck and worked ok. I’d never choose them but they did work fine and the cutoff was flat as seen in the pic below. They were not blinding to others at all. And before anyone asks why my cutoff looks so low, it’s because my house is higher than the house across the alley and as such my driveway is sloped downwards looking at his garage.

That's one person's review which means nothing to me. As long as it's an improvement to me that's all that matters. I don't know this person and his review has no bearing on my decision to use LEDs. I use them and as long as I'm happy that's all that matters, I don't care what reviews or studies show as they are merely an opinion.

 

Not trying to change your mind on leds, I’ve already learned that lesson the hard way, but crashnburn80 absolutely knows what he’s talking about.
He wrote the stickied headlight thread. He owns the instruments to back up his statements and has spent the time doing controlled experiments with to prove what he’s saying. He’s not just some guy basing his opinions on what he sees or feels like is right.
If you’re going to run leds in the wrong housings, at least get a set with glare caps...

 

Happy for you, not all LEDs are bad, improvements have been made since his studies. Like I said I'm not changing them out no matter what someone says or some little study so move on! I'm perfectly happy, no issues and going on 4 years and its a huge improvement over the stock Halogens and a few other brands I have tried.
