Are you seeing any of that smoke from all the fires that are in the Yukon and NWT this year?

Strange to see so many fires so far north especially this early in the year.

 

Now that's the kind of place I'd like to go see. According to Google Maps it's only a 60 hour drive, one way. Maybe when I'm retired and can take a month-long trip.

ETA: What sort of tent are you using?

 

Another Gazelle fan here. Picture taken at Hopeville pond state park in CT. We've spent about 35 nights in our T4 at this point and I'd say @BuzzardsGottaEat review is on the money.

I'll add a few comments. I agree with Buzzard, it is long in the bag. It's over 5', so it won't fit in the back of SB longways. You have to angle it, which is a bit of a pain because you have to fit everything else around it. We had ours in 2 pretty big storms and no leaking at the doors yet. The only problem we've really had is one of the hubs came apart (nut came off) at the end of our last trip. It's not that hard to put back together but it took me awhile to figure out that you have to pull the poles from the pockets in the tent, put the hub back together and finally bend the poles gently and put the ends back into the pockets.

We use it mostly as a bedroom and don't spend a lot of time in it during the day so the small windows and doors aren't strong negatives to us. The biggest positive is the quick and easy setup. The wife and I can easily setup the tent in less than five minutes now, including staking the corners down.

Yeah there smoke/ haze was just starting to come in on my way up so i got to still see everything, not as much to see on the way back due to it.
Lots of thunderstorms and fires due to lighting strikes out in the middle of the bush. been fairly dry the last month or so up here. some road closures on the YK side due to fires, i dont know if Top-of-the-world HWY is still open or not.

Yeah took a good 3 days to drive up from Whitehorse, mostly due to snapping photos and being absolutely floored by the scenery up there.
Why retire? Just get a new job up here in the Yukon or Alaska! much easier to plan a week long trip than a month long one! it's what i did

Gray truck (mine) I'm running a cabela's tent-cot. There is a Budget RTT Thread here about it. (later pages you see a few guys run the Cabela cot.

Foe $300 and only weighs 50lbs. It might not be the best around, but i had an awesome experience.

Thanks. Probably a bit too small for me. I need a bit of breathing room. I'd love to quit and get a job up north but I'm rather vested in my job and retirement plan. Plus not really sure how to get a job in Canada.

 

Love these batwing awnings. They're built really strong and offer tons of coverage. I'm definitely getting one of those when I get my FWC.

Wow, beautiful!

Looks just like the Skagit river in BC where I fly fish. About 15 miles of fishable river like this, and no competition as few want to do the bushwhacking. I have fished the river alone several times. Rainbows up to 20 inches, bull trout to 24 inches. Catch and release fishery only, and it is wild fish as it has never been stocked.

First went there with my family over 50 years ago. Fishing heaven in September. Don’t need waders, an old pair of shorts and runners and wade the entire river like that. Need a couple bottles of mosquito repellent though, and bear spray. Had 2 run-ins with black bears on different trips. One I am in the river waste deep and casting, and out he comes to the shore next to me. Takes my lunch and off he went, good thing. Must have been related to Yogi. A bit unnerving for sure.

The map shows you just a 2/3 mile stretch of the river, and there is 15 miles of that with fish most of the way. However, you no longer can access the river banks by any vehicles. The old spots are blocked, so you have to leave your truck on the FSR and hike in. Once at the river, you can wade most of the length with the odd spot where you have to take to the bush to access the next run. It is a glorious spot, my favorite river in BC and so little fishing pressure.

 

Quick overnight before hiking Mount Rose the next day.

 

Right now, I don't have a bed rack I've got the OEM 3 panel bed cover. Was hoping to be able to pack everything in the bed, but the size of the Gazelle IS problematic for a long trip and the necessary gear for what we are planning now. For various reasons, a RTT is not an option for us.

 

Just finished the Utah BDR and used the 270 awning for repair shade in a 98 degree mid day breakdown. Love this thing!)
