Has anyone replace their seat belt tensioners? I'm tired seeing my belts hanging out of the truck as I walk into Home Depot.

I have the same problem. I'll follow this thread and comment if I figure it out.

You tube has some videos on cleaning the belt. Usually it's not the tensioner, but the belt is thicker due to dirt and oil etc. It may help. My other car went from no retraction to working like new

Cleaning the belt as the solution to that problem seemed far fetched, but easy enough to try. To my surprise, it worked for me too.

Soak the belt in detergent, then lube the mechanism as best you can.

Just don't be surprised how grungy the belt is. I desperately need to do mine, but since I don't drive it all that often, there's always something that is a higher priority, lol.

I worry about cleaning the seat belts since my kids are in the back sea of my truck and would prefer new-- do dealerships have OEM 1st gen belts? Anyone know the costs?

Here are the part numbers for the rear seat belts on the double cab courtesy partsouq.com, look like they are discontinued:

I personally wouldn't be worried about washing the belts. Just extend them fully, put a binder clip to keep it from retracting, and soak the belt in hot soapy water. Change the water a few times, give it a little scrub and you should be good. If the webbing material can't handle soapy water it probably won't be effective in an accident. This is the before/after on the my seat belt that I cleaned last month

See post #139 of @crashnburn80 build thread. He bought a new one recently from the dealer.

I had the same problem so I removed the strap from the tensioner, turning it as tight as it would go, and then reinstalling the strap. That helped much more than cleaning it.

^Follow the links in there. There are services to rebuild seatbelts with new tensioners and/or new webbing or just replace the whole thing with a new OEM unit. Toyota still sells them for 1st Gen, you just need to do some hunting on part numbers. I went new OEM. Note that most dealers will not ship a seatbelt as it is labelled as hazardous due to the explosive charges, so you will want to find a local dealer to pickup the part.
