I’ve been a Toyota guy through and through when it comes to 4x4s but I’ve driven several RAV4 and Honda CRV (and Pilot) side by side when helping family members shop and there’s really no comparison. The CRV is worth a test drive if you’re not dead set on a Yota for whatever reason.

The CRV is definitely a consideration in this class but I wasn't interested in going Honda. They have had their share of CVT issues though that might be all fixed. I'd rather have a Toyota CVT with the launch gear if I were going with that type of tranny. No options to get away from it on the CRV. I think the Rav looks better, too. I really have to like the looks of something that will be parked in my driveway. :D

Fair assessment for sure. I guess I should have qualified that the majority of the comparisons were previous models and not the brand new ones as well so not exactly dead on. But the Honda’s always seem to be much more spacious and drive a lot better. Good luck with your purchase. Looking for a used Pilot for my mother currently and the market is bleak these days! Ha

Headed to the dealer later today to pick this up for the other half. She wants to build it out into a mild off-roading and camping rig.

Sweet! You guys will enjoy it, I'm sure!

I bought a $50 dollar set of fog lights on Amazon to get the proper housings since my XLE was like yours and had no fog infrastructure. I put a set of Diode Dynamic SSC3 Pro's driving lights in that spot and they kick ass!

It’s baffling that the thing has no fog lights for not being the entry level trim. Toyota does some weird things with their trim levels and packages

I’m going to be bugging @memario1214 quite a bit to get the lighting up to snuff on this thing!

I was surprised at that, too! I have the cold climate pkg, heated steering wheel, seats, a bunch of other gizmos but no fogs. WTF?

The lights I bought had a harness and the appropriate small square switch to fit the one blank spot. It's kind of a bummer not being linked into the pedestal light switch like our Tacos but it wasn't a deal breaker.

So the higher trims don’t have the fog light switch on the stalks either? That’s a bummer. I was thinking I could swap stalks like the SR taco guys have done

    LOL!
I'm too skeered to mess with the ride comfort so it was just tires and wheels for ours.

Thought I heard something about that but I'm not a Hybrid so I'm good.

Ok, 22 XLE premium AWD 19" wheels .
I read in owner manual do not use snow/tire chains.
I'm very well versed in adverse driving conditions.
I also know this is a AWD vehicle and quite capable and will probably never need to chain up.
That being said there are areas where chains may be required,or at minimum "all vehicles must carry traction devices".
What would be your solution? If heading in a direction that may have some requirements.

I like RAV4 with off road look, I mean roof rack, AT tires, etc.

Years ago, my mom was looking for a car, my brother and I told her to get a vehicle from Toyota... She ignored us and got a Jeep. Now she has issues many times with it. Oh well.

You may want to reach out to your local DOT or state troopers office and ask them about it. From what I understand, some areas give AWD vehicles a pass (assuming proper tires are on of course).

I don't trust the tire chains because it could damage the wheel well(s). If I were you, keep the recovery straps/ropes in your RAV4 and get AT tires, for some reason you get stuck, ask for help and someone can pull you out with strap/rope. If less than 1in snow, then you shouldn't have any problem driving through..

If deep snow, be careful and you may get stuck.. If you haven't had experience in the deep snow before, then find a ride or wait until snow melting away, then you go out to drive.

If you want more info, contact those people which mentioned in the post before me.
