Bad Body Mount(s)

Since purchasing my 2021 Tacoma TRD Offroad, I have already had to have the front body mount replaced on it. It was making a loud squeaking/creaking sound with occasional popping noise. Considering it had less than 5k miles, this was odd. I took it into the dealership for warranty work and they immediately identified it as a bad body mount. They claim from the factory it was installed incorrectly and it was causing the frame to rub. They replace the part and all was well for about 5k more miles when it started making the sound again. I worked closer to a different dealer so I took it there, they put it up on the lift to do an oil change, and when the lead mechanic took it for a drive - boom - no more issue...for about 2k more miles. I take it back to that dealership, the service tech verifies I'm not losing my mind by taking it on a drive. They put it up on a lift, and the mechanic comes by, doesn't see anything wrong, and takes it for a test drive - again, no more issue. And again, for a few thousand miles. Now it's happening again and I took it back to the first dealership - who once again said it's a bad front body mount and they're replacing it again on Wednesday.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this?!? Also, has anyone heard of a taco needing the body mounts replaced twice within 15000 miles?!? Did I just happen to get the runt of the tacoma litter?

You have a couple options:

I did the universal kit, but one of my rear ones is toast now.

 

Is this something easy to do myself with some basic tools, or is this something I could buy and take to a shop for install?

 

I installed those universal polyurethane bushings and one year later developed a huge crack in my core support. Found the big thread on cracked core supports and noticed almost every truck in there also had the poly bushings. YRMV but they are sus.

The hardest part on a stock Taco is getting access to the bottom side of the body mounts through the front of the wheel wells. Just need a jack to life the cab just a bit to create working space above the mounts, wrenches / sockets, and a torque wrench.

I just came back from the dealership where they replaced the body mount again. Turns out, it was actually that the hole for the bolt where the body mount goes was misaligned from the factory. They welded and re drilled a new hole. Hopefully that fixes the problem for good! I really like the taco, but replacing body mounts every oil change was getting a bit nuts. The taco was danger close to becoming a Jeep or Nissan.

 

I am having a similar problem/noise. Is there a way to tell if the Body Mounts Bushings are bad from looking at them before you remove them ? Thank you for any help
