Wisconsin Tacomas and bad financial advice

Steelies aren't as cheap as they once were but definitely less than a good alloy wheel. Fair warning they are also heavy. I lost about 2-3 mpg when I swapped from stock.

RTS makes an aftermarket steelie in a 16 if you prefer that size but the Toyota center caps do not fit.

SO, a bit of an update. Several pages back I showed you guys a screen shot of a place I wanted to explore: Bittersweet Lakes. @Larrydangerfield went and explored last week and showed some of his usual excellent pictures. I want to explain a bit though, as Google lied. There are no camping options upon any road that I found to the lakes. You can canoe in and camp. The road in is fun and I found a friend who swooped down in front of us and perched for photos:



Well, as we couldn't camp at the lake and we still had most of the day we Went up C and in towards Ross lake.



There are several well groomed roads to choose from and we did just that taking a suitable road to the left to find our way back to Bittersweet Lake. After about an hour or so we popped back out on Hwy 70 just east of Bittersweet lake (having never seen the lake again...) Huh. Turned around and went back up hitting every side road we thought was worthy of our time. Found some beautiful country and at one point drove a mile or so of a daisy hiway!



We poked our way back almost to the Ross lake road and took a left on that nice road that cuts diagonally down on the map (or so we thought...)
It started out as a wide wonderful dirt road, but by 2+ hours in it had deteriorated to a goat path. That said, every gate we encountered was open and it was still marked as a trail that is used (I think mostly in the winter mind you...) At one point there was a sign that the trail narrows ahead. Narrows? It was already narrow. Well, there was a bridge that was narrow... Tacoma truck on skinny 33's narrow. There was no extra, and it wasn't a friendly place to have a problem with a nasty side hill on both sides. But, as you guessed, we persevered! Eventually, we came to a crossroads... Literally 4 choices with milage posted. By this point my wife and I were pretty well done and wanted out; it was getting last and we were hungry. 2 mi West was the shortest and clearly most traveled option so we continued on for 1.75 miles to. A. Gate. Remember I said every gate has been open... well this one wasn't. I could spit on hwy 70, but I couldn't get to it because of a gate. I am not one for breaking the rules, but I did that day. Someone had been in the same predicament and used their 35's (my guess... maybe it was just a few UTV's with heavy throttle) to get through the pit and over the berm next to the gate. I used a lot of cussing, sticks/logs and gumption to get through the same way. The post was TIGHT and the truck was tilted a lot as well as the berm being a max reach for my current lift and tires. It wasn't easy (the picture does not do it justice...). Probably wasn't legal. But it got done. Why lock one gate???? The other end was open at every intersection for miles and miles for crying out loud!

In the end all's well that ends well and just a bit down the road Slo's Bar had a fish fry going where we partook of a wonderful meal on the shores of Big Arbor Vitae Lake. The road is shown on the map but be careful as it's a stinker with a gate at the end... I am assuming from @larrydangerfields report that he did not encounter this obstacle. Saw his tracks for a while I am pretty sure, but not to the end we chose.

 

Yea... probably should have but I instead followed the hooligans before me.

 

Always carry universal keys. Aka bolt cutters

 

Most of those have cheap masterlocks. Watch a couple YouTube videos and you can rake them in about 3 seconds

not advising people go through locked gates…but it’s a good skill in the event you needed

a guy I worked with started doing lock picking as a hobby.. we did an escape room for work one time and the room was full of locks so he just started seeing what he could open. about 2 minutes later a door popped open with the treasure and we completed the room lol

after that they told us no using things that aren't already in the escape room

 

That person doesn't deserve that truck... It didn't kill them and then gets that.
