ARB Differential Breather Mounting

So after blowing out my rear axle seals after a river crossing, I decided to get the big ARB differential breather. I find myself in water, snow, ice, and mud pretty often so moving the breather up somewhere higher probably is a good idea.

Does anyone else have this breather? I'm trying to find a good place to mount it that is easy to access for cleaning. I'm thinking up under the hood nearby the front differential breather. Where do you all mount yours?

Timmy the Tool Man did his breather mod into the rubber grommet surrounding his gas tank filler neck, though he doesn’t use the ARB kit and honestly it might save you a couple bucks if you don’t too.

Other than that, near the front diff breathers would be fine too

 

Just be aware this system with a filter should be someplace warm the moisture in the filter could freeze on those frosty mornings if you venture into the mountains..

I never even considered the possibility of it freezing. You just helped me make up my mind. Good thinking.

 

Why? Is it because you want ARB? You can vent both front and rear for ~25 buck. That price includes new hose, vents, clamps, the whole 9 yard.

 

Well, mostly because I didn't do enough research before I bought it. When I bought the ARB I didn't realize the transfer case already had a vent higher up so my plan was to connect both to the ARB. Second is because I bought the ARB last summer and I'm finally getting around to installing it and now it's too late to return it.

 

I venture we all have bought things without enough thought at times.

I know I sure have.

In most cases just extending the vent hose up to the bottom of the bed is enough.

Unless you pretend your Tacoma is a boat to often .

 

Fuel pocket is where I routed the rear, front is just extended. I also blew seals out from a very mild water crossing.

 

When you think about seals most are set up to seal in one direction . Why a blocked vent allows the pressure to vent at the easiest place.

Then to keep liquid from getting through a few pounds of water pressure would push right past.

 

Not ARB but I mounted mine in the gas tank filler area. I think running it from the rear diff to the engine compartment is too far.
