I have a interesting story (at least in my mind) to contribute to taking SS benefits and my personal experiences. Retired Teacher of almost 30 years who was self employed for 10 years as and Insurance Agent and paid my Quarterlies religiously for 40 quarters to qualify for SS benefits. I left teaching for 10 years and then went back again for a total of close to 28+ years so I qualified for a Teachers Pension. Upon submitting for SS I was informed that my SS benefits would be subject to a 40% reduction because I have a Teacher Pension. In my opinion, not fair!

Question guys. If one retires at age 65 and takes ss can you still work? And does your earnings effect your ss benafit?

Not at this point in life, Ken. I had my fixed wing license years ago but it just became too expensive to maintain as a young Army officer with a family. Now, I am content to crew and get to fly from time to time.

I have my military pension - started drawing it when I retired from the Army back in '04 - that has no impact on my Social Security pay.

    Morning
    Funeral today
    Great great friend.
Wifey and I just over Covid
    Brother of deceased has Covid.
    What a cluster.
Going to isolate and zoom them in another room
Was trying to arrange to grab his boat to give him his “final ride”.
    Loved to fish like me.
That went over like a fart in church.
    Stuck up assholes.
Maybe I’ll steal the urn and use my boat..

Kurt: Wife is after me to paint similar powder coated furniture. Couple of questions. What brand of paint do you use and are you happy with the paint? How often do you repaint? Anny special prep work or is primer sufficient? I was going to have the furniture powder coated in the off season this year.

Welcome to the porch. DO NOT sit in the rocking chair. The owner will get mad! LOL

Welcome to the porch. Please post pics of said GTO.

Congratulations Mark, the interior mods look great.

Mike: Glad to read you are over your recent bout with Covid. Sorry for the loss of your friend.

Another easy day, by design, for me. Quick shopping trip, drop off stuff to the food bank, and another late afternoon of music and dinner at Stan and Joes. Music + Events — Stan and Joe's (stanandjoessaloon.com)

    Morning all:

Yup, a PAIN IN THE BUTT bear!
I think that every time it visits the pond it pushes the drainpipe over and the pond drops to various low levels, sometimes just a few inches, and sometimes a foot or two.

Sorry to hear about the passing of your friend Mike, yea, sure sounds like a cluster.
I wonder if when I croak they could sit me in the passenger seat of the "66" and drive me to the cemetery, they might have a problem straightening me back out to put me in the box though! o_O

A little something every chance we get.
Welcome guys. You already got all the rules, such as they are. No politics though....

I have the AirSense10; got it before I switched to Medicare though. Also, a Dreamware full face mask - they wear out quietly, and you can't tell except by the numbers. I am finally learning that if I follow the replacement schedule, I can wear it snug-not tight, and get good numbers. Just avoid XMed for supplies!

Wife was a Teacher, with Texas Pension, and same applies. She can't get a number, and has even been told she will get nothing. "Windfall Elimination Provision" they call it - like it's some winning the lottery value! I've told her just take SS when she hits the full age, and take the money. Stupid law.

I just put a couple coats of Rustoleum "Hammered" on every couple years. I use a wire brush on the drill to knock of the aluminum warts, rinse, and spray away when dry. Powder coat would be real expensive compared to the table cost! And yes, I sprayed ceramic wax on it yesterday! Smooth and shiny!

:pccoffee: Good Morning Porch Pals & Gal! Got the mowing all done, and did some garage and yard putz. Run some errands, and start a new project in the garage, because I found something at a decent sale price on Prime day. So, in some period of time, I will have a garage door opener! Well, why not? Things getting heavy - certainly can't me be getting older! Got some more Blink cams to put up too.

Let us know when the bar opens, Mark! :proposetoast::cheers:

The Social Security earnings limit is $1,630 per month or $19,560 per year in 2022 for someone who has not reached full retirement age. If you earn more than this amount, you can expect to have $1 withheld from your Social Security benefit for every $2 earned above the limit. Once you reach age 66 this no longer applys. At age 66 you still receive your full SS benefit no matter how much you earn. This is a case that if you are working full time or earning in excess of $19,560/yr you may want to hold off collecting SS benefits until 66.

Here’s some good info from SS Admin.
It depends on your full retirement age, 66 if you were born 1954 or before, later for 1955 and up…

    Morning all!
Installed a Ring Video Doorbell Pro I got on sale. Bought some drill bits made especially for brick and concrete. Drilled at slow speed with a lot of elbow pressure (don’t have a hammer drill) and it took a while but perfectly smooth holes. Standard bits tend to chip the brick. Price has gone up on these since I bought and there are some cheaper ones with the same style if you look around.

Set up the motions zones and tested day and night views, works well and I’m pleased with it. May have to adjust motion sensitivity and areas in the future but so far no false notifications but it’s only been one day.

    Would not have guessed!
The oil truck was here around noon with a new young driver, the old one retired. I was standing there talking with him as he was filling the tank and noticed the bear coming up through the yard, pointed it out to him and think he almost crapped himself!!! It then went over in the woods and he kept looking in that general direction, said that's the closest he's ever been to a bear, oh well, gives him something to talk about for a while! :)

Yes, but I believe there is a dollar limit you can earn annually without impacting your SS$$

Going to be in the high 90’s and low 100’s for a week or so. (No humidity ). I have made my daily plans for a week. Pool time, grill something for dinner, have a glass of wine, sleep, repeat. It’s a busy and tough schedule but I’m going to give it my best shot. I may mix it up a little and take the boat out one day. Retirement is rough but I’ll continue it as long as I can.

And welcome to the porch newbies. The porch is getting a little crowded so we may have to build a porch addition. Maybe get rid if the coolers and replace them with refrigerators as we’re going through a lot of ice and it’s getting expensive. By the way Yuengling is my beer of choice (can’t find it on the west coast)
