I wouldn't necessarily go by what your boss says. Since you've already talked about it..... (to fellow employees/boss).... I'd look it up on the HR manual and see what the details are.

If the HR manual states guns aren't allowed, then there should be signs up to tell you that. Otherwise....maybe your boss doesn't have a clue what the HR manuals say.

I dont even need a concealed permit its perfectly legal to carry a locked and loaded firearms on your person in my state. However in your rig it must be unloaded and mag must be in seperate place from the gun. For the safety of officers if you get pulled over. And you also cant carry in the capitol. You also have to be 16 years old to carry a firearm, which is strange because to buy a pistol you have to be 21 years old and a long gun 18 years old.

you dont have to be 21 to buy a pistol in most state from a private sale....just have to be 21 to buy a handgun from a FFL dealer...

Here in PA - you can't legally buy guns without going through an FFL.

Agreed. I hate that you can't have a weapon on base. Everytime you go to work you have to be sure to take it out and hope nothing happens, even though I might've forgotten a couple of times

But with a lot of the base housing going out to contractors we can keep weapons inside our home now. At Goodfellow AFB our weapons had to be in the armory, but here at Wright-Patt we can keep them in our house. So it's a step-up from what it used to be.

I've not needed to pull a pistol and I hope I never will have to. I try to avoid potentially bad situations most of the time.

If you're carrying ...you should already have the mindset and be fully aware of WHY you are carrying in the first place. So there's really nothing to discuss.

What's more important is knowing when you need to use it or not use it. I'm on my 3rd book now and the stuff I've read is very helpful to put things into perspective and makes you think of things you would've never considered before.

But there's no substitute for taking self defense, defensive handgun, and conceal carry classes.

The crappy thing about pulling your gun, is that when you do you've shown your hand. You've just escalated your response to the level of deadly force. If THEY don't believe you'll use it even if YOU know that you still might not have to, then they'll either try to take it from you or walk away know you wont shoot them. I wouldn't count on the latter happening. Some people buy into the "who needs courage when you have a gun" philosophy and those are the people that usually get shot with their own gun.

You've got to be able to dial up the aggression and release the inner warrior just as long as it takes to subdue them and then turn the dial back down again. Their level of cooperation should dictate your method of subduing them. For anything from a firm tone, to a gun barrel strike, to firing the gun, they get the response they deserve.

While visiting family in Orlando, FL (I live in Fort Lauderdale)- I was stopped at a light and noticed two people approaching me- one on each side of me. As the first 'gentleman' got up to my passenger window, which was rolled down, (the other guy still about 25ft behind my truck) I had my gun drawn and pointed at the passenger side floor. He looked at me, looked at the gun, made a gesture to his buddy and asked me where the downtown bus station was. We were literally right in front of the (massive, very clearly designated) bus station. I told him to back the fuck up and be on his way.
Closest I've ever come, but I have been approached numerous times at gas stations, parking lots, etc. like other posters here, and have placed my hand on my gun without drawing it.
Either its an amazing coincidence that such a large number of scummy looking people would approach a complete stranger in a dark/deserted area for completely harmless reasons, or they are astute enough to read the body language of the people they prey on, and realize that some of us arent going to be victimized, so they are suddenly just in need of a quarter, a pen, directions, etc. Coincidence, i think not...

Threads been dead for a few days....so I'm guessing that's a good thing!!

Reading my 4th book (The Cornered Cat).

Personal Defense for Women by Gilda Haynes
In the Gravest Extreme by Massad Ayoob <-- for the guys
Armed & Female - Taking Control by Paxton Quigley
The Cornered Cat - by Kathy Jackson

I highly recommend getting some books & reading about the matter. It's interesting read. Doesn't make you any better but does make you think about things a little differently.

As always....educate yourself about your local laws regarding conceal carry & the legal aspects of using a gun in self defense. Laws can change regulary. Sites:
    http://www.atf.gov
    http://www.handgunlaw.us/
    http://www.usacarry.com/
    http://home.nra.org/#/home

Not necessarily promoting anything here, just places to find your own state laws & such. Any other sites...POST UP!

The one book you should read is bullseyes don't shoot back by col. rex applegate and mike janich, it will change your outlook on self defense and how you train.

    Ok...so I've graduated.
Spent the last month carrying everyday, gettin a feel for it, finding my 'sweet spot' and preferred carry method.

I've finally stepped up to the plate and am carrying chambered & safety off. Not a big deal, I guess I just had to work my way up to that.....

I've been seeing crimes committed on women here lately (local) and thought....what would I do if that were me?? A shame, some of those ladies could have half a chance if they were carrying.
