I’ll preface this with I’m not from Florida but I currently live in Tampa. Dying to get up to the mountains and do some camping. I’m looking for some areas to look where I can drive up some trails, find a spot and camp. No services needed, just looking to be secluded. Trying to narrow it down so we’re just guessing after an 8 hour drive up north. That was the first area I pinpointed that I’ve been to before but if there are any decent areas south of there I’m fine as well.

Go a little farther north towards Clayton. There’s tons of stuff along the Chattooga

I would suggest going and camping over towards Helen and exploring Tray Mountain Wilderness. Toccoa Falls is nice but those are mostly hills. Tray has some great elevation change and you will get up over 4000ft in elevation if you hike to the peak.

Thank you! I'll check that area out. I'm pretty unfamiliar with the area so I appreciate the help narrowing it down. Any area specifically you can recommend to get a few miles of off roading to get to some remote camping?

34.785696963146535, -83.6868231397143 plug that into Google Maps. Off the beaten path camp sites are there and there are plenty of trails to ride in that area. Helen is also near by for grocery needs as well. If it is still hot when you go, you can go into Helen and see if the tubing service is running and tube the Hooch to cool off. I will look at some old literature I have on the mountains but there is also an old hidden graveyard up on Tray Mountain that is worth visiting if you can find it. Let me see what I can find.

Post pics! We did an annual Oktoberfest Camping Trip from 1989 until 2011 with family & friends. Great area to explore!

FS79 has been closed by NPS from Chimney Mountain Road, you can still access the road from the other direction as it is not gated and is good wheeling.

I liked Coopers Creek WMA when I camped there for Christmas years back. I also used to camp along the Chattooga near Clayton when I lived in SC. I still have pin drops if you want them. All of the sites I camped at had zero cell phone service, which was a plus for me. All sites are on the water.

Coopers Creek is awesome, love that area. You are correct about it not having good service. It always amazes me driving up there from Duluth how long it takes to get there. LOVE the Chattooga. so much good fishing above Burrells Ford!

yea PM them over if you don't mind. I like water and I like middle of nowhere. We were up near the Chattooga a couple of years ago but had a little cabin rented out on like 20 acres on the SC side, then we drove over the state line to go swimming. Loved it there.
