I've seen where some of the crawler guys have swapped an extended cab onto a regular cab frame. They apparently wanted more space inside the truck with the short wheelbase. I am about to start a camper project and I want to swap a regular cab onto my extended cab frame. Yeah I know, probably not the smartest thing to do but I have an 8 foot Four Wheel Camper pop top that I want to permanently mount on my 4x4 Tacoma. What I'm trying to find is basic info on this swap. The dealer is less than helpful and I can't seem to find much on the internet.

What I'm concerned with are the steering, braking, shifting, wiring, and any bits that might make this more complicated than I am willing to tackle. Any help or direction would be good especially if someone has done the swap in either direction.

Hey old thread but you ever get around to trying this? I’ve been toying around with the same idea trying to find if it’s feasible

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
It would depend on your Fabrication Skills sure it can be done .

Much easier to just cut the back off your regular cab and weld the rear of the access cab on.Install an extra set of cab mounts .

Just why would be the question ? As a because I can type of challenge. Depends what you call feasible .

I think you've got it backwards. These guys both already have xcabs.

Sounds to me like the goal is to have an 8' bed on an extra cab frame. :notsure:

It's 100% doable. Swap the cab add new cab mounts. Use the break lines, rear wire harness and fuel lines from the extra cab. Shouldn't be much work at all.
