Was working on my '22 and noticed the coolant level was low, looks like it boiled out at some point. Should I be checking if there's a leak somewhere? Any quick fixes or do I bring this to Toyota for service since it's still under warranty.

No brainer to bring it in if its under warranty. Looks like its leaking right from the top of the tank. You can see the crusty pink dry coolant.

It’s a pretty common thing. Same with the 2nd gens it’s just a flaw in the design. Put a hose clamp on it clean off the coolant and continue on with life.

Exactly. Mine does it too. If it bothers you OP, just put a clamp on it, but don’t bring it to Toyota for this. It’s no more of an issue that the tiny mess it made. The radiator is designed to overflow into this container as pressure and temp build. Toyota just didn’t clamp the little hose because it has virtually no pressure. But they should have because it obviously still leaks a little and that alarms people.

There should be no reason why his coolant overflow tank leaks like that. The tank should not be completely empty like shown in the picture. Not normal. Both my 2nd and 3rd gen don't do this and its been well into the 90s here the last month or so.

Neither of my tacomas do this. 2nd or 3rd gen.

It’s a known thing. If he puts a clamp on it and tops it off, viola. Problem solved for good.

I would still personally wanted it documented at the dealer just incase its a bigger issue down to road.

I'm on this forum quite often at work and have never seen a thread about it.

My 2019s overflow coolant level has been the same every time I open the hood to look at or work on something, about a 1/2 inch below the full mark since the day I bought it in late 2018. Time of year never changes anything even in Florida heat.

OPs overflow is almost dry, definitely an issue going on there. Wouldn’t even rule out its cracked.

Not every truck does it but that small leak where the hose fits over the nipple on the tank happens a lot. A small clamp will take care of it. There is nothing sealing the hose so when pressure builds up a small amount of fluid can escape. It’s really not a big deal. The only issue that will ever come from this is the one he has now.

Most overflow hoses go into and down in the overflow tank....that way you don't get leakage at a top joint. However, I can't believe that a new hose on a 2022 would leak like that, but apparently it did. I would think there is something unusual happening...so yeah get it checked out.

This is a pretty standard design to put the coolant in with a hose. Overflow should be of a constant level when cold, right? Does anyone make a replacement tank or modification?

The only pressure build-up is inside the engine (which is what I think you mean). When coolant bypasses the radiator cap due to pressure, it travels through that hose into the overflow tank. The cap on the overflow tank should allow air to escape when fluid is pushed into the tank...and allow air to re-enter when the radiator/cooling system pulls back coolant as the engine cools down. There should really never be any "leakage" which is what we are seeing with the OP's vehicle.

This. My truck idles a lot and I’m hard on my truck in the AZ heat. Never once seen my coolant empty. Maybe a little low. But never empty. Check the rear crossover. Go to dealer.

Same with my vehicles. My son's Toyota Corolla didn't change a bit between coolant flushes and that was over a four year period.

Wait... there is an actual picture of the reservoir with crusty pink stuff on it. Maybe that's a clue where the leak occurred? Don't think we need CSI this time...
OP, put a small hose clamp on it. Or take it back and let them do it.
