Denso part #210-0461 is listed at 105 amps. If they’re telling you the alternator you found is 160 amps it’s definitely not the same one. If you are running or planning to run a lot of electrical accessories, 160amps may be adequate for your 4Runner. It would be overkill for me. The unit I ordered was for a 2001 model. Sounds like the 02-06 units amp output is higher.

Now that I’ve had 6 months of driving to really soak in the difference, I can say for certain this is a must have. Not only is the electrical system sharp as a tack, but I’ve even noticed better gas mileage and all around performance.

Could I have gotten similar results with a regular OE replacement? Maybe. But if I can get a little more juice for my add-ons while still buying Denso then I think it’s an easy choice.

Thanks again to the freaks who can discover things like this for morons like me.

Rock Auto still showing out of stock for the 105 amp. Anybody found another source recently? My stock alternator hasn't died yet but I'll keep it in reserve if I can find one. Might have to scrounge pick n pull.

Bummer. My original OEM Denso alternator is still working after 25 years but I think it is the early 60 amp type. It would be interesting to see if your dead Denso 210-0461 105 amp alternator just needed brushes or what.

My original one is 60 amp, I put in a 2004 alternator that’s 80 amps or 90 amps,
    Everything is the same

Well that’s a bummer o_O I would of expected at least 175k like most Toyota alternators get.

I'm about the same age but less mileage. On a trip to the SW Colorado I was getting some lights surging at idle and the volts fluctuated way more than it did before (14.6-13.6). I replaced it with my old for now and ordered a replacement regulator off ebay for $20, I will toss it back in and see how it goes. The bearings and brushes are still in great shape so it should be back up and running with the new parts.

My voltage was fluctuating by one volt too sitting at idle jumping back and forth and the following morning the battery was completely dead.
So mine was a diode or regulator,

    Yup,

This is what I bought, matched the numbers on the back of the regulator.

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/174523263057

I will report back when I get it, I may have it tested at auto parts store first before tossing in the truck. Mines a PITA to swap because of my battery tray and winch controller box.

Understood. I would like to put one of the reman Denso 210-0461 105 amp alternators in my '97 Taco 4x4. But if it is still unavailable when I need to replace my original 60 amp OEM alternator, I will have to decide between the new 80 amp 13794N NipponDenso at Rockauto or the new 140 amp 13671 alternator sold on Ebay. Still on the fence as to which would be the better choice.

EDIT: I wound up going with a new 80 amp. 13794N NipponDenso alternator from RockAuto. It is the highest output OEM type alternator I saw, and it is charging at 14.37V. at high idle which will work just fine. Good timing too because my OEM alternator bearings finally started getting noisy after 25 years of offroad abuse.

I wonder if that ebay 140 amp is any good. The company has good reviews

EDIT: After further research, nevermind lol

That sucks. Was hoping the extra amps would add life, not reduce by half.

I don’t think O’Reilly’s understood what they signed up for when they gave you lifetime replacement.

2 Odyssey Extreme batteries, and 11 years later and my 180 amp DC Power Engineering alternator still shows no signs of slowing down. Best thing you can do for a healthy electrical and ignition system.IMO

Just installed a 270 am DC Power on my FZJ80.

I'm just amazed this thread is still going, lol. Some one asked me about a 120 amp fuse it is bussman: bp/flm-120-rp. I used a denso unit because it was OE but honestly any quality reman alternator that interchanges from this number will work.

Also I like to add that many people do not know how much tension to put on the belt. So a simple test is to place a socket on the alternator pulley after tightening and try to turn the pulley. If the whole engine tries to turn with the pulley then the tension is set correctly; if the pulley spins easily without moving the belt than the tension is too lose or maybe the belt is worn.

I have been running this since I first posted it with zero issues.

    Hope this helps,
    Santiago

Anyone have any insight on a alternator that also fits for the 2.4 Taco? Anything over the crappy 60amp I have would help. I got some help from @chagovatoloco saying theres a chance of a V6 one fitting but theres no for sure answer
