    Just did this mod. Easy.:D
Should have done this a long time ago. I used the original breather with a union from Advance Auto Parts.

I found the front diff and ADD breathers on my 2.7L but where the hell is the transmission and transfer case breathers?

Just wondering what you did... tie both the front and rear breather tubes together and use the front (2 way) breather?

The front breather in still in the stock location. I followed the instructions in the first post for the rear breather, I just used another union, coupler, and the original diff breather instead of a fuel filter.

If you used the original (threaded) rear breather, you haven't solved the problem... The whole point is to get a two way breather up high, above the water line... just like the front diff. breather is.
    ........................

Water isn't getting in through the rear breather sitting on top of the differential. Try and blow air into it (as if into the differential)... You can't, it is a one way check valve the only allows air to LEAVE the differential and water or air cannot get in (through it).
    ........................

The BENEFIT of this change of location is to put a two way breather, up high (just like the front diff. has) so water doesn't 'suck' into the rear diff. past the axle seals... This can (and has) happen when you drive a hot diff. into a cool stream of water or mud.
    ..........................

Click on my link to my breather mod photos and see the part number to order the correct breather...

Well shit! I didn't realize that was how it worked (didn't realize the rear diff had a one-way breather). And I couldn't really figure out how the hell I was gonna keep a fuel filter in place or from breaking. Should be an easy fix...

So you don't accidentally suck dirt down that tube and into your differential. :)

If you diff has gotten hot on a trail and suddenly cools, like when you go through a stream, you end up with negative pressure in your diff. The little caps that come with your diff are one way valves. Under negative pressure conditions like that you can actually suck the lubrication into your differential and away from your axle. Which, in turn, can suck water in next to your axle. The filter lets you suck air back down that tube, that way you don't pull the lubrication off the axle.

You really can't say this is a design flaw though. For street driving this just wouldn't happen. For one, your diff probably wouldn't get that hot. For two, it's not really likely it would get submerged in water if it did somehow get that hot. This is really only applicable if your going to go offroading and plan to cross a stream or two.

    Happy modding. :)
