What’s your DIY propane tank mount?

Wondering what everyone did to mount their propane tanks. I’m looking into ideas for keeping my 5lb in the bed and not rolling around

 

3 (*empty) propane tanks fit perfect against the tailgate using a

$29 Keeper - Ratcheting Cargo Bar - Black/Silver, Adjustable From 40"-70"

ratcheting cargo bar located in the first bed slot.

 

You are not supposed to store BBQ tanks on their side. And they are 25lbs. in Canada.

 

They're empty at the moment, but I will transfer them vertical after refill.

 

Old milk crates work great. The tank fits just perfectly.

I've previously gone with the milk crate "solution" as a temporary measure. A fixed bracket which securely holds my 11 lb bottle will be WAY safer. But where to mount it?
I have temporized for the moment, with 1lb green bottles.

I had not heard this before, so:

If cylinders are stored improperly, such as on their side with the relief valve in contact with propane liquid and the safety relief valve opens for any reason, liquid will be escaping instead of vapor posing a much greater danger.

Made mines. It’s mounted to the outside of my popup camper now. I can get a picture if interested

 

I use this to hold my tank upright, with the cargo bar



Also, I hide my cargo bar under the mat against the back window, when not in use. You wouldn't know it was there.....

 

Tagged for ideas, looking for ways to store mine and mount to bed rail. Crazy most mounts cost at least twice that of the actual bottle.

 

that’s exactly why i opted to build mines. Cost was just sourcing hardware. I had the aluminum.

 

For my truck, I modified a 10lb fire extinguisher mount that I had leftover from a jobsite. I added some hinges to the bottom plate so that when it isn't mounted, it can fold into itself, creating a smaller profile.
