Is my radiator toast?

Opened the hood tonight and noticed this. Checked on parts.toyota and radiators are discontinued? What the heck. p/n 16410-0C032?

 

Yup. Good catch. OEM rads are discontinued but lots of reputable rads are available.

OEM long life coolant is a good idea while you're replacing it. (needs to be mixed)

 

Denso is who builds them for us.

 

Harrison is the original manufacturer but has since discontinued it. I bought a denso and it works great. Don't toss out your original side brackets from the old radiator since it's common that the new bracket doesn't line up so you have to reuse the OE one from the old rad. Get new OE hoses too. I had fitment issues with both gates and dayco.

 

This is true about Harrison, but Denso also builds radiators on the other model lines and it is a good product.

 

Do you have part numbers for both the upper and lower hoses? I couldn't find OE ones when I replaced my radiator, and the Gates hose worked fine for the upper, but not at all for the lower on a MT radiator.

 

My Denso is going on about 5 years I believe.

 

Is it worth picking up one of those radiator pressurizer things and testing the radiator?

 

Just get a new Denso radiator.

Mine is a automatic which I believe the lower hose is different. The part number is 16572-07040 for lower and

16571-62070 for upper. Prob would be a good time to change the thermostat and the tstat o-ring since you're kind of already there. OE tstate

90916-03075 and oring is 16325-62010.

 

Yeah, the Gates would have worked fine with an auto radiator, but was much too long for a MT. Even with trimming, the length was "between the bends," so it could never be short enough. I'm not in there now, but at the rate I put miles on the truck these days, I will be doing the timing belt again in 2.5 years, so I'd like to get the hoses replaced then!

16572-07040 is no good for me, though the top (

$28 16571-62070 Radiator Coolant Hose

16571-62070) is the same hose for MT/AT.

 

07040 is for an automatic radiator.

I went with 16572-07030 for manual.

On the Toyota USA online parts website 16410-0C032 shows as discontinued. However, when I go to the local dealer ecommerce site where I have an account, it shows as available. Wonder if it is the Denso or something else. I called them and they have no clue. They have to order it from the Toyota regional warehouse in LA.

 

There is a real possibility the part is discontinued but there are still some in the pipeline.

 

I've always considered radiators a consumable part.

100k is a good lifetime. Replace it and don't worry about build up and loss of cooling.

A new radiator is $85 ish. A radiator flush cost $135. It's a no brainer. Toss in a new one (I've used them all, the only issue was packaging, broke drain valve on one). Shipping damage occurs on anything.

 

I picked up the radiator today and interestingly it is a Harrison and the Toyota regional warehouse appears to have a bunch of them. Just in time as I now see a puddle of coolant in the driveway. [As an aside, I have noticed recently that a bunch of Toyota dealerships have been bought out and their ecommerce sites are not working the same if at all. They local dealership is now charging MSRP+ and the ecommerce didn't give me the normal discount. That all changed with a phone call.]
