Prewired backup cam

Hi, I have noticed that I have a wiring harness in my tailgate for a backup camera. However my truck came with a basic head unit with no screen I have since installed an aftermarket jvc unit and was wondering if I could get an oem backup camera. If so, where does the wiring harness go after it leaves the tailgate? Where would I find the other end? Thank you

 

The OE display was in the rearview mirror.

If you drop the overhead console you should find the wiring.

My 5 lug '13 was all set. My replacement mirror has the display, auto dim and temp, all PnP

 

Dang running that down to the center console may be more trouble than it's worth. Might as well just run a cable from the tailgate to my head unit. As for the other features such as auto dim and temp, that may be worth getting the mirror. But I'm not sure my truck already has the light sensor and thermometer installed so I don't know if I will be able to get that working. I have a 2010 6 lug 4.0 base

Don't overlook the fact that the OEM rear camera requires 6vdc, not 12vdc. This is talked about in the threads I linked.

 

Would also need to snip the T19 connector at the tailgate handle for an aftermarket cam.

 

Makes me wonder if I can get a different mirror for my '09 SR5 and get temp display.... I have backup screen and auto dim already

 

Do we have the connector into the OEM camera itself documented?

I think there were 2 cameras. 09-11 and 12-15. I happen to have a 2010 camera and mirror off my truck to take pictures if needed. Let me know

 

Looks like 12495 is the connector number.
