And Heaven Hill has historically been the source of most of Willet/KBD's distillate, because Willet did not distill before 2012.

They aren't saying their source for Noah's Mill. Most reviews state it's a NAS blend of whiskies from several producers.

I generally shy away from Willet/KBD altogether because the lack of transparency rubs me the wrong way. But that's me.

Saw that for the first time Tuesday night at a restaurant in Dallas. Ordered a round. It was pretty good. I'd buy at our around MSRP. BUT you can't find it here. Lol

What’s it like? Lol, I’m 30 minutes from the distillery but I have not tried this one yet.

As for what I’m having tonight, more of the Yellowstone Select. I like it, but it is a little dry.

Tonight's pour, thought I'd stay light after drinking a bunch of Oktoberfest beer. 03482944-6F77-49F7-9EFA-0FAA9FBB7D79.jpg

I saw Weller SR at a bar the other day for 14 a pour. They also had Blantons for $25 a pour. Crazy times we live in.

Hahaha seeing as I scored big last summer in VA, this makes me laugh
May or may not know a guy that had quite the insider knowledge for VA releases. His collection is quite impressive, especially considering all of it was at MSRP

It’s a great drinker at MSRP

still in Dallas? If so, I know a pretty good steak house that has a nice whiskey selection. I go there a bit for work trips. $15 pours of Elmer T Lee. And they had a store pick of Weller Full Proof last time I was there for like $20. Generous pours too.

The traditional reviewers have bee saying that the 15 has an awful lot of oak and it starts to compete too much with the other flavors. I hope that’s not the case given that I’ve sunk funds into two bottles.

Many say that both the 12 and 15 are improved with some ice or water.

No I was only there from Tuesday-Thursday. And we went to the restaurants work took us too. But they were nice places.

i gotta try it when I have it first, had my sazerac rye first, then that so I need it with a fresh palate. I also am extremely bad/new at describing flavors still but I’ll try to explain it as best as I can when I do.

I’ve only had Stagg once, it had a wonderful, complex, delicious flavor…what I recall is a cinnamon apple caramel vanilla bomb, very smooth. Somehow, for a 130ish proof bourbon, there was very little heat or bite. Extremely satisfying. I couldn’t give you a comparison because it’s not like anything else I’ve ever had. All the very high proof stuff I tried, you know it’s high proof the second you even sniff it. The Stagg Jr is sneaky.

This is what I've read as well. I like knob and don't mind oak, so I'm optimistic.

I’m just starting out too, so no worries. The reviews that I have read on it all have the same conclusion, it’s good for the price point but it tastes like a younger whiskey with the alcohol hitting you on the nose and tongue, initially. I’m just curious if the initial hit is more like a tap on the shoulder from an old friend or a hay maker from the brother of the girl you were making out with at the bar.

Don’t get me wrong I like a little burn, but I also don’t want to feel like I’m downing fresh jalapeños either. Sorry if that sounds pretentious, maybe I should go back to beer…

Have you had any of Maker’s wood finishing series bourbons?
their RC6 release from 2019(?) was too much oak for me

I mostly stick to cask strength regular Maker's.

tap on the shoulder for sure. To be honest I hardly noticed any bite at all.

Having a little glass of Michter’s Single Barrel Rye neat. Same bottle I’ve had for a while, interesting that on ice it tastes butterscotchy, while the predominant flavor neat is dried cherries. Either way it’s delicious.

Does anyone have access to the 10-year rye?

Revisiting this one after a few weeks open. It has one of the nicest bottle/cork qualities I have seen in any whiskey. Thick glass, large easy to handle cork, easy to pour without dropping or spilling.
