The SKINNY on skinny tires

I'll do my best! I do have some trimming to do but I probably wont get to it until this weekend.
Here is the one tire I put on.

 

255/85/16 Geolander G003 going on next week

 

So curiosity got the best of me and I put all my tires on today. The passenger's front is clearing just fine and seems to have enough clearance (we'll see how much when I flex test it). For the driver's side I had to remove the fender flare because it won't clear it, "note picture above" and even after I remove it I had room for the wheel to turn, however it does still touch just a bit in reverse backing up while turning about where the pinch weld is.

SPC UCA These with a good alignment might make it that I don't have to do much work because the passenger's is clearing just fine. "Before anyone ask I have no idea what my alignment numbers are!"

I do have CMC done and right now on the drivers side if it wasn't done I think it would have touched if it wasn't chopped.

If you take it to a good alignment shop that knows how to adjust the SPCs they can set it up for max firewall clearance. Have them move the rear cam bolts of the LCAs all the way out, and the front cam bolts of the LCAs all the way in. This rotates the lower ball joint as far forward as possible. Then set the SPC to setting E. Adjust the camber with the SPC and adjust the toe with the tie rods.

I know the idea of how SPCs work, but I haven't found anyone here in Maine that can get mine dialed in. One gentleman in NH (2 1/2 hour ride away) got mine spot on, He was 82 and doing alignment for 40 years.

 

You can set LCAs are set up as shown above, and set your SPCs to position E before you take it to the shop. Find a small shop that will let you stand talk to the tech as they do the alignment. Show them the SPC and explain to them not to touch the LCA at all. Tell them not to worry trying to set the caster at all as it should end up around 3 degrees with the LCA set up like above and the SPCs set to E. Explain that the front will need to be raised to take the load off of the front suspension, and then the big nut on the SPC UCA can be loosened and the ball joint mount slid either in or out to get the camber set. After that it is just a simple toe adjustment with the tie rods.

For reference these are my alignment numbers on my 3rd Gen set up as described.

Drives dead straight but the roads I’m on most of the time are not very crowned.

Realistically, it should pull to the right just enough to prevent a head-on collision, with on coming traffic, if the driver becomes inattentive. (Pulls left in the UK)

The road crown does this too, but that wasn't the intention for the crown.

No lift, no rubbing.
255/75/17 SL Duratracs on FJ Cruiser steel wheels.
Nice ride, setup a bit heavier than stock.

I've been wanting to get 255/80/17 on my 2nd gen. Does anyone know if these tires will run on aftermarket mud flaps? Couldn't find anything on this on this site

Any elaboration to this, or just trying to boost your post count?

 

In my experience, mudflaps will not fit. I had to do a pinch weld hammering and I did a CMC even though I kind of didn't need it.

My alignment is also not great for fitting big tires, The alignment shop could have done a much better job but didnt.

This is for properly fitting tires bump to droop lock to lock with my alignment and my wheel and tire setup.

 

Post count only matters when you are trying to post in BST.

But to your point, the first post by OP has some misinformation to the "benefits" of skinny tires. Hundreds of pages later people still eat it up.

 

What do you think is misinformation? Your clearly dancing around the subject but if you have trep's I'd like to think you know a thing or two.
