Just returned from 3 pleasant nights at San Elijo State Campground (California) . Campground sign posted showed all nights as "Campground Full" even though close to 1/5 of the campground sites were not occupied.
Spoke to the Kiosk Ranger, he indicated sites may show online as "reserved/occupied" when in fact they may be available. Best to get online at 7:45 am and open spaces will show as available at 8:00am for cancellations. He pointed out that "Veterans" get free reservations?
And then with all "no shows" sites will pop up as available to reservation.
San Elijo has no hookups, and full hookups. Nice campground, clean showers and restrooms.
No rowdies, dogs allowed only at the southern end of the beach. Fire pits, tables. Enjoy!
