Would have been nice to know about using the auto trans mount when i did my conversions years ago. That really is a nice gem of info.

It was an accident, I was sent the wrong one and figured out what it was and that it would work just fine. Only down side I could see it is may cause the transmission to sit closer to the cab. That is the only reason I could come up with as to why my trans and t-case sit so close to the cab trans tunnel.

What fittings did you use for your Tilton t/o bearing on the side of the case? Looks like a clean install.

Are the 16 and up tacomas the same size center section? I thought the 3rd gen trucks got larger r&p in the differentials vs the 2nd gens.

TRD off roads with auto, all manual trans models, and all TRD Pros have 8.75" R&P.
All others had the 8" previous from 2nd gen.

I guess all... they look like some nice quick disconnect fittings.

The quick disconnect fitting is made by Aero Flow. It is a AN -3 male x AN -3 male bulkhead fitting.

The other fittings are Earls AN -3 fitting of various types.

A couple of things I thought about after yesterdays post that others may want to know. If you are doing this swap with a manual t-case mod, I would suggest using the 3d printed template/ guide to modify the back of the transmission for the shift rods. Additionally you really only need to do one side of the transmission because you have to trim one of the t-case shift rods anyways. I did try mounting the t-case without trimming the shift rod after modifying the back of the trans and found there not to be quiet enough room. If remember properly rheath08 posted about this in another thread with his AWD conversation.

Second thing when you cut the floor for the manual t-case shifter and you do it in manner I did it you will lose a mounting hole for the center console bracket under the cup holders. I had to bend the bracket and open up the hole so it would mount to an adjacent hole that is bigger.

The guy I reached out to made the skinny studs longer at my request so you can align them first. I found the larger studs to be too long as originally designed by another member and sanded them down to what was really needed.

In these last pictures you can why you do not need to really modify the right side because of the shortened shift rod.
Each picture show the shift rods in the different shift patterns.

    Nice! Great info.

I too talked briefly to the guy that designed that template. But, since I never found a tcase, I never made one myself. Glad I waited. Yours is much better. Wanna sell that thing ?

I broke one of the studs it still works but I can’t justify selling it. I can send it to you or put you in contact with the guy that made it for me.

Any of you gear box wizards ever split an FJ case for a twin stick mod?

Its not hard. taking apart the case is the same process as swapping out the input shaft. You have to trim the tit off the shifter rails where the shifter sits and remove the "pill" from between the two shift rails where the detents are located.

Witch fj case? If it the part time case I have split it, but not done the mod. My understanding is you just front the tip off one shaft so the other does not hit it. It is a stop that is machined in.
I did not notice if the FJ AWD case had that, but it was not on my mind.
Either case is not bad or hard to split. Going back together is the same. You just have to wiggle the case and shafts for gears to line up right.

I suppose that I can wait until I get to that point. Someone may end up needing it before I do. The way things are looking lately. That’s quite likely. Thank you though. I appreciate that.

285/70R17 with 4.10 gears. It works fine, but I feel it need to be 4.56 gears or 4.88 with the 33's. The stock gearing for the 3rd gen manual is 4.3.

@rheath08 Gotcha, I finished a regear to 4.30 and front/rear locker install early this year. Read the entire thread last night and am kind of crushed that my options are either to rebuild RA60 and have it shit the bed again or scoop up an RC62 and have to buy/swap gears again lol
