    Hey folks,

Posting here with the long travel guys-hopefully someone with experience on breaking things and keeping them from breaking will chime in.

What do you think of cutting off the top of coil bucket gussets to strengthen the coil buckets without creating a double shear?

    Here are my thoughts:

    1. I don't necessarily want to commit to a UCA design/maker right now. Doing this will allow me to run any UCA I want down the road.

    2. Wouldn't this strengthen the coil bucket and make the known failure point the retaining bolt that holds the UCA to the bucket? This would be the easiest part to replace in the front end. (I will be using the Marlin Crawlers kit to strengthen the LCA area)

Please let me know your thoughts.

Your second sentence is a bit confusing. Are you referring to UCA double sheer brackets? I don't believe most MFG's that do upper arm dbl. sheer brackets will lock you into a specific UCA. The dbl. sheer brackets may also be minimizing potential flex in the UCA mount therefor helping maintain your caster and camber. What other company's products have you looked into other than Marlin?

    1. UCA bolt shear gussets don't limit you to one manufacturer. I have TC UCA gussets and have run jba, icon, and now camburgs. No issue.

    2. What would you bolt the coilover onto?

    3. Is this for your 2022?

Thank you. Yes, this is for the 2022. I am leaning towards either JD Fab or
Ironman UCAs. I like the rubber frame pivots. Ironman has easily replaceable ball joints and the JD fab has a sealed uniball. Also th8nking about camburg solely for the reputation.

I have been down the road with cars and I know that plans could change…I just don’t want to have to re-weld or re-work gussets just to change arms.

Apologies for the confusion- I meant take the TC gussets and cut them in half to just use the gusset portion and not use the double shear portion where the bolt goes through.

I have just looked into the Marlin LCA gussets and the TC LCA gussets, the Marlin looks the stouter of the two and also less time to install.

For the UCA/double shear gussets, I looked at TC and JD fab. I like the look of the TC better.

I am also planning on running the Archive hammer hangers.

For the spindle gussets, leaning towards the TC.

I know it’s likely a bit overkill for a mid travel setup but I just don’t want to break anything. I have a friend who does exhaust and suspension work (great friendly shop in so cal) and the time to weld everything up when the suspension is off for the King install is not huge. The LCAs will have to come off but that is not a big time commitment when the rest is knocked down. He will TIG it all for me too. I like that!

I am a bit bias: JD Fab all the way. Call and talk to Harry. If you are within a couple hours of them pay them a visit. You will not regret it. If you want to check out my stock length mid travel (all JD Fab) and are not far from Coachella Valley message me.
