I have too many kayaks lol. This isn't even all of them.

wow. what are those rod holders on the side of your Outback? i just picked up my new Outback last friday. no water time yet, but i did move my fishfinder on board.

 

Starboard side is Snipe Air Industries horizontal rod holder.
Port side is Hobie Horizontal Rod Holder.

 

I’m wishing I had a setup like that top pic. Went pike fishing and hooked up with large fish 30+”’s and got pulled around and wished I had more than what I have. That net for one and more rod holders. I currently have a sit in one and they limit my ability to get more advantage over them. I’ve successfully landed most but holy crap is it a blast

 

I have the Ikuram rack to carry my two kayaks. I just got back from a 1k mile Baja trip, and it was OK. The rack uses traditional type clamps to sandwich to my Prinsu crossbars. With high winds an a long way, the kayaks shifted to rack, despite me tightening down the clamps. Is there one of these two-kayak, J-bar setups that will bolt right to the Prinsu crossbar?

 

Just an fyi. Was shopping to add a lightweight fishing kayak and came across several bogus sites. Hobie lynx shopping specifically and when I got to checkout they only accepted bank transfer or paypal. Nope...something fishy. Called the shop and they confirmed they had been hijacked.

I wanted to make a first post, since I've been lurking around here for quite some time. First off, I am from NW Ohio - the midwestern king of multi species fishing. We have almost everything you can think of within 2 hours drive. I've been fishing since I was about 3 and seriously fishing for about 25 years. I've gone through around 6 or 7 different fishing kayaks -- each one has been on a road trip around the country. Each one is (or was) pretty modified, as I try to be nimble and innovative.

Just recently designed a seat riser to 3D print. The riser is for a cheap Pelican Catch 100. Don't really know if this will work for others. Instead of purchasing a seat for about 150-200 dollars, I can print some risers and install them instead. If any of you have the means, it's a great option if you are a tinkerer and love to play around with things. Use grade 8 bolts/washers/lock nuts or plates if you can. Keep in mind that this requires holes and I'm not responsible for any of your tinker fails!

Im still waiting for the damn wind to die down.... every single time I have gone out its been 20+mph winds on the water and I end up just parking on the bank and fishing there.

 

I recommend it.

 

Was gonna get the kayak for my first white mountain apache tribe trip here in az but with 20+mph winds, I may just elect to leave it at home

 

You better get that kayak in the water while there still is water in Az…

 

the first time I ever saw a bass caught was in AZ. on lake Pena Blanca. my dad had just passed and I was 13. a family friend took my brother and I doing outdoorsy stuff for a week to allow my mom to grieve. (I got older and realized what he was doing)

I vowed to go back to that lake with my kayak just to try. I heard fishing has gotten bad there, but to be on that lake again seems like the right thing to do.

Fishing’s been good the past few weeks.

 

Today was the Socks and Cookies NY Bass tournament to benefit our deployed troops and the final day of the Hudson River Fishermen's Association Bass tournament to benefit local kids and families. I wanted to try to finish strong and I did. These are my best finishes so far in my long Bass Tourney fishing career of three years. LOL

Early morning was a grind for me. I had to stay near the kayak launch, because as usual, lower G.I. challenges. Haha. But it started getting better midday.

I caught at least 15 fish, using about half a dozen lures. The most successful was crankbaits (shallow and deep), weedless rigged fluke dropshot, Carolina rigged plastic creature, Ned-rigged orange craw and my newest favorite, the Spy rig. On average, my fish were caught between 6-10 feet of water, in and around underwater weeds.

Most of my bass were small (less than 14”) but I managed 5 over 14.5” fish that I submitted to my online tournaments (I was doing five today.) My biggest today was 16”. I also caught 3 Bluegills. Boy, they were fun to catch with light gear!

But my crazy catch on a Rapala DT10 crankbait was the highlight of my day. My bluegill color lure was hit with a vengeance. The instant I felt a massive hit, I instinctively set the hook pretty hard (because I just lost a previous fish on a weak hookset.) My first thought was that it was a monster carp because it wasn’t moving like a bass. It was kind of lumbering toward me as I literally cranked it in. As soon as it surfaced, I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. Two 15” largemouth bass hooked on the two separate treble hooks of the crankbait. WTF? How the hell could this happen? Dunno. But it did.

Today was a good day: Second place in SAC. Fourth place in HRFA. I’m getting better at this thing called fishing.

Gotta rest now. I have to do the lawn and do car maintenance tomorrow. Thanks for taking the time to read about my adventures.
