This may be a stupid question but what is the purpose of this metal collar that came with my Toyota ball mount kit?

Spacer if necessary, some 2" receivers are narrower and can allow for excessive pin walk which can damage the bent wire hitch pin and sheer it.

Shouldn't be needed on the tacoma as it has a bolstering strap around the reciever making it quite thick.

I believe @0xDEADBEEF is more correct however the following remains true.

Do yourself a favor and get something similar to this, I find hitches on the side of the road way too often to trust those little wire B.S.

I'm currently running a very nice $200 pintle hitch courtesy of some poor bastard that lost his wire pin and dropped his hitch, found all three pieces about 25 feet from each other, kept the hitch.

Sorry best pic I got right now.

Looks like a spacer sleeve for the shank of the ball. Some 1-7/8” ball shanks are a smaller diameter so you put that on (like a ring on a finger) before putting it in the ball mount and tightening the nut.

So does everyone not use this collar? I realized I should have been using this if it fits? My shank is 1" but the hole in the ball mount without it is 1.25". The collar made it fit perfectly.

There must be people who forget the collar but I've never heard of any of these braking.
