I have a mummy bag as well, but it's horrible for camper use.

Just got to break in the new setup. It takes all of 15 minutes to set up. Even quicker to tear down which was great when the sandstorm hit!20220531_145902.jpg

Changed to a more simple bed setup. Simple plywood and 2x8s. The bed slots work perfectly.PXL_20220624_193203212.MP.jpg

Mummy bags are good for two things - backpacking and for use in extreme cold. For everyday camping and truck camping they are uncomfortable and confining. When I was an avid backpacker mummy bags were great, light weight, compressible, warm, perfect for backpacking. But for other camping no way would I go with a mummy. They look cool, makes people who have them look like they are a rugged outdoorsman, even though they likely aren’t. If you are of small stature they are probably ok comfort wise.
For general camping go with a quality (emphasis on quality) rectangular bag. Big, roomy , warm, comfortable. Down is the best sleeping bag insulation there is but it’s not necessary, is super expensive and if it gets wet it loses all it insulation value and can take weeks to dry out. A quality rectangular bag with quality insulation will make you a happy camper.

I went with a Big Agnes Sleepy Bear 35 Doublewide Sleeping Bag and I love it, lots of room to spread out!

Picked up a Topper Tent recently, took it a trial run near my home. I may post up a review later. I have mixed feelings about it

The Topper Tent was purchased to replace the Softopper/DAC camper top tent accessory.

Those are the more minimalist setups. The luxury setup is a Runaway Rangerunner camper and fancier kitchen setup.

I just Finished building this one. It's my fourth design/iteration. The main features include: dual battery with solar panel, sink, water storage, custom kitchen drawer, built in lights, speakers, and sub-woofer, and the bed turns into a couch. It's basically my second home. I usually spend a third to half of the year sleeping in the truck. If you want one, I can build one for you too.

Using peg board is smart for ventilation. Is it hardwood pegboard? I have a nearly unlimited free supply of the non hardwood peg board. Never thought of using it for this.

It's not pegboard. It's a 3 inch Latex mattress topper. The holes are indeed for ventilation since latex holds in the heat too well.
