I went the other way. I went from a 06 d-cab Tundra to a 20 Tacoma. I still have the 06 and let Jr drive it. But I prefer the tundra. i have a company vehicle and i cant see spending that much and letting it sit outside. That was the 1st factor. The 2nd gen and 3rd gen dont fit in my garage. The 2nd factor was the price. The tundra is a good 15k more than a tacoma with matching specs. The most i have ever spent on a new vehicle was 38k OTD. Private school for two kids wont allow to spend more on a vehicle. Sucks being poor. lol

I placed deposits at Longo, Carlsbad, and Crown (before the new owner). $500 deposit per dealer, ended up at Crown because they had a TRD OR pkg limited available that day $61881 plus $2000 with their added MAX SHIELD and PDR "package".
So far so good, just a different beast.

Just had a 2022 Tundra as a rental car. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised.

    Pros:
    - good power
    - spacious interior
    - felt natural compared to other full size trucks I've driven

    Cons:
    - for nearly $20k more than my 2017 Tacoma, it still lacks features such as dual climate or heated seats
    - still no power seats (on SR5 anyway)
    - Android auto wireless connection was spotty and wouldn't connect at one point
    - user interface is not intuitive at all

When it's time to go full size, it is definitely a good option. However it is still not enough to sway me away from my Tacoma. Especially not for $50k for an SR5. I understand that's pretty much the going rate for full size trucks these days, but that doesn't make it any better. The exterior design has grown on me though, but I still think the grille is ugly.

I sold my 2002 Tacoma Double Cab 4x4 last year and saved that money while I searched for a replacement pickup. I recently acquired a 2004 Tundra Double Cab 4x4 in excellent condition. B776C1E8-A9A3-4E73-B3AB-B078FA7BFEB0.jpg

Has the timing belt been done?

Otherwise guessing it's rust free coming from SoCal.

All maintenance performed as scheduled since 2004 including timing belt and water pump. It’s a SoCal truck so no rust

Joined the tundra crowd. 2019 SR5 OR Tacoma was too small for my family. Few thoughts 1) now I have to start my mods over. That sucks but is also cool. 2) agonizing over what tires to do. Keeping it stock height for a while. Don’t want to deal with any rubbing and load “E” will make milage even worse. Thinking Wildpeaks in 275/65/18 SL rating (stock OR rim). 3) gas prices are no bueno! 4) storage space is terrible. Crew cab is great. But no under seat storage. Cmon Toyota. Shouldn’t have to spent $400-600 to get an under seat kit.

I hear you, but I've been making it stuffing all the crap behind the back seat.

They have a few different options. This one seems to be the most popular.
