Hey first off fully aware there is an audio sub section but it seems rather bleak. I spent a bit of time searching threads with little avail…

I’m looking to add something that doesn’t require much of an interior upheaval and adds a bit of bass. And has an easy and stealthy install.

Looks like there are the following options

    Jl Stealth box $950+ amp/wiring $350
    Oem Audio 500 $1799
Rockville $149 which is is a huge budget option https://www.amazon.com/dp/B019Z3R582
Various wedge boxes that are hard to figure out. As no one seems to have a decent reference of what works and what doesn’t…

who has had decent luck with any of these ? Ideally I’d keep it under $1000

    Any advice is highly welcome.

That doesn’t seem like a very simple option though. Is there a recommended amp+sub combo. Not looking to blow the windows out but also should be better than the $149 Amazon unit ?

check out Crutchfield for dealers or even at Walmart. If your not replacing the head unit you’ll also need an adapter to line out to the amp and remote turn on

Add An Amp Amplifier Adapter Interface to Factory OEM Car Stereo Radio System for Select Vehicles - Add Subwoofer Bass Amp etc.- No Factory Premium Amp- Compatible Vehicles listed below https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CQUL240

I built mine for a few hundred. Its 300w 10” pioneer matched with 300w alpine amp. I built the box myself. 77674397-8CCF-4D65-8653-9148F8272030.jpg

I don’t have any good pictures but I have the single 10” taco tunes box behind the passenger rear with an alpine sub and alpine amp under the drivers seat with kickers all round

Nice ! Essentially looking for this but for someone else to have built it … haha

I am a bit surprised there aren’t more options that are specific for the taco. Considering the aftermarket.

That’s great ty. I hear that it’s better to splice into front speakers over rear due to reduced sound output out back

I was thinking of adding the kicker CS 6x9s up front … have you run them without a dedicated amp also ?

No worries…it was hard getting the sub boxes up to canada at a reasonable price. The air space is in spec for a shallow mount sub but you can make it as wide as you desire. I only did one 10” so had enough space to mount an amp right beside, which made things convenient. Added a few more pics so you can see how i built it, as well as clearance so you dont need to remove the back of seat like most sub boxes require. Probably could make the box a little larger if you like. My other 6 speakers are not amped, although i did upgrade the headunit which put out more power than the stock radio. Its a nice balance but most importantly, glass shaking bass. Not sure how anyone can drive without bass

Does the taco tunes box require the removal of the plastic ?

Slides under my passenger seat. Takes pressure off the HU amplifier adds to the bass.

because everyone's point of reference is entirely different, nor is well-described.

the rockville under seat sub is going to be good for older-alternative, rock, twangy-country, jazz. up to about half the volume level of the stock system. if you listen to anything with a strong drum beat, rap, new-country, pop, the stealthbox/taco tune box+sub+amp is going to be a better option.

i tried a soundstream usb10p just for kicks in the last truck. the specs looked promising at least. even with some crazy tuning, i never got it past the level of bass one would expect from a boom box. was it better than stock? yes, but it didn't hold a candle to even a cheap sub/box/amp combo.

i would rate underseat subs very similar to how a tv/vcr-combo works. it's functional, but built to an extreme cost that is easily outpaced by purchasing individual versions of the same thing.
