there is no real "fix" for a missing air/vapour barrier without an extensive energy retrofit , thats just the nature of older buildings and how they were constructed at the time , you shouldn't worry too much about it , I was more commenting on how ridiculous it is that it is still in your current code for new construction

if its feasible , try to get at least 4' of straight ducting run from the fan before any elbows , more is better . Really helps keep the noise level down

Looks like Amazon cheap chinesium fart fan. I spent the extra bucks for the Panasonic WhisperQuiet and I'm glad I did.

Getting back to this mess, here's a pic. This is the outside joist, any way that I shim it will be visible. I planned on having the deck boards extend past the edges about 1/2", I like that look much better then the "picture frame" style which would require a trim board. Although, a trim board would hide the mistake and a shim between the joist and deck beam.

The last option that I can think of is to get a 2x10 and rip it down to 7 1/2" at the joist hanger and 7 3/4" at the deck beam.

Saturday I installed a new entry door. To achieve proper plumb, the lower left exterior corner was about 3/4" proud of the sheathing...lovely. Trimmed out the interior and exterior today. Padded out the exterior trim and kick plate/board some to give the appearance of everything being aligned/even. Used a jig to cut a pie shaped extension jamb/filler for interior. 1/2" at top and 1 1/8" at bottom. Nice clean cut. Replaced most of the exterior trim, but kept and patched a few pieces. Wasn't able to match the original fluted trim, but this is close enough. Homeowner intends to get a coat of paint on soon.

I remember having to make up trim like that on my old house in Mississippi. Was not fun at all...

It's not too bad. Some wood glue and a pin nailer hold that top assembly in place.

    Piece of trim sounds reasonable.

I wasn't as good back then, so luckily the trim was being painted an oil based white. I used a good bit of caulk on that job

I have stained trim in my house now, so I gotta be more precise now.
