Hi, Volvo 2008 XC70 splash shield (I think) is dragging on the ground, hinging / attached from the front. The car has 222,000 miles on it, I'm about to sell it for a bargain. What are my options? Could I just rip it off and not replace?

Yes. Probably held on by a few screws or plastic fasteners, easy to remove those. I would say replace if you were keeping the car. You may find you can epoxy the tabs back onto the splash guard, just get a plastic specific two part epoxy and clean the parts well, might be a candidate for zip-tie stitches for added strength. The splash guard does make a difference on keeping all kinds of shit out of the engine bay.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll look to zip tie. Looks like the replacement part is worth 15% of the car's value... https://usparts.volvocars.com/p/Vol...ield-PROTECTING-CASING/42845662/31290965.html

Is this a hole for a bolt, screw or one of those plastic fender fasteners like what Redfordian mentioned?

Yes. I can also drill where convenient to attach in non-OEM places.

I guess it's kinda up to you and what the rest of the cars like. If it's a beater zip ties or self tapping screws would work fine. Maybe add a washer to help it from pulling through if you use a self tapper.

That's what I was thinking. What self-tapping screws would you use? Stainless or zinc sheet metal work ok? #8s at 3/4"? And good tip on the washer. A stitch in time, etc...

Stainless will hold up better. I think #8s should be fine.

Just zip-tied it in two places up front to get it operable before the snow hits tonight. Zip-ties would be the way to finish the job if there were better hole alignments. I think the self-tappers will work great, but was in a rush. I would recommend massive washers.
And quick forensics: looks like the old washers cracked and blew of as the bolts were in place and the shield appeared to be intact. Thanks for everyone's help.
