With the number of issues Chevy is having with their powertrains, I would not buy a Chevy product at this time.

If a rail strike happens and with lockdowns in China I'd be inclined to keep what I have right now unless the new vehicle you want is in stock and on the lot. Slim pickins coming. Might make the last 2 years look like we had a glut of vehicles.

Ram has MDS on the HD gas trucks. 2500/3500 with 6.4. I owned a 2014 Ram 2500 and it was pretty flawless, and it got pretty good mileage on the highway as well.

If you want V8 sounds you really can’t beat that Chevy pushrod motor. Lol at the Chevy haters.
Under warranty, lifter failure is their problem. You can disable cylinder deactivation with an OBDII plug or a tune. Yes, lifters might still fail eventually but then you bolt in a 6.2 (cam it first an remove the collapsible lifters).

LOL at the Chevy lover. If your motor fails just buy another one? Is that really the mindset of Chevy fans?

If, and that’s a big IF. I mean, yeah, what else you gonna do? Whine about it on the internet??
You don’t even need to buy another motor if you want to stick with the 5.3 if it fails outside of warranty. Just need a different cam and standard lifters. Even if you can’t do the work yourself, it’s less of a financial hit than trading in the truck.

I still love my good ole Tacoma, but I’m also fond of my 2017 Tahoe with 112k trouble free miles. Love the room, comfort, power and sound of it. I’ve had AFM disabled for a long time with HP Tuners. And IF those lifters go, I’m upgrading to an L86 without AFM hardware. It bolts straight in. :)

I had to lemon law my trails boss for a misfire issue they could not figure out. That truck spent more time at the dealer then it did in my driveway in the year I owned it.

Worse part was I also had the brake failure issue the early new gen Silverado's had. The electric brake system would fault out and you would lose like 80% of your breaking power. GM literally told me they didn't have a fix and to continue driving it until they had an update... Such BS. Finally, it became a huge recall.

Go read about the current 5.3 and 6.2 lifter failures. It's a huge problem with GM right now. Literally people driving off in their new 65k trucks and having a lifter or lifters go bad in a few hundred miles. All the lifters in the motor can causes this issue but GM will only replace one bad one at a time. Worse part is GM dealers started running out of Trucks to give people as loaners. I got stuck with an equinox for 2 months. Not a big deal until I need to haul my bike around... It was such a shitshow.

If you never leave pavement, sure. Chevy hoods are obscenely large, turn radius is pure dog shit, and the plush ride they are known for disappears off road. Chevy trucks are city trucks.

I love my Tacoma but this mindset is the most annoying of Toyota owners. All trucks are good at something and it seems several Toyota owners love to rub it in everyone else’s face that the Tacoma has better reliability. Just don’t read the topics on the current issues and it’ll be fine.

That's not true at all. Minus the junk engine, My trail boss rode way better on and off road compared to both my Tacomas. Turning radius was fine and pretty much the same as the other full-size trucks I test drove before purchase. Only thing I can bitch about ride quality wise is that the duratracs got loud after a few thousand miles.

They use thinner tires (as all manufacturers do) that flatten easily, the turn radius was worse than my Tundra and people complain that a Tundra is to hard to maneuver off road. All trucks ride like trucks off road. My point on the ride was that it won't be plush off road, so the big thing Chevy touts doesn't count in the dirt. Visibility is pure dog doo doo. Add a lift and it gets even worse.

    Ha

Those are not reliability issues. I dunno
Anyone that had an issue with the fuel pump, including myself. Everyone I know that has tacos have none of those issues. There are hundreds of thousands taco owners that have absolutely no issues and don’t post about it on here. There would have been a lot more threads on how reliable their taco has been.

So if you think just because couple dozen guys posted some negative things, that means 3rd gen taco has reliability issues?

No manufacturer is perfect but Lexus/Toyota is definitely on the top, regarding reliability. There is no question about it.

There might be some new Tundra owners who disagree, but they are the exception.

my point is no vehicle is without fault and some people here sip the Kool-Aid too much. My dad has a Sierra with the 6.2 and hasn’t had any issues so therefore the GM’s don’t have any issues. Look I can make terrible arguments too!
For every guy posting about lifter issues there are 10 happy guys that don’t have any. Same can be said for any truck.

Sure, but let’s all agree that Toyota/Lexus are less problematic than any other manufacturer.
